As a world traveler with #wanderlust of epic proportions, I continue to be pleased to hear about my favorite electronic music festival brand gaining such traction all around the world! Always yearning to visit Africa, learning that Ultra South Africa’s 5th anniversary was a huge success gained it a spot on my bucket list for travel next year.
With electrifying shows in Cape Town and Johannesburg, and breaking all previous attendance records, as well as being the first Ultra event of the yearly calendar, the Ultra South Africa line up appealed to a wide range of electronic music fans.
On Friday, February 9, the Cape Town Stadium saw 15,000 fans stream through the gates to enjoy the likes of Afrojack, Armin Van Burren in the rain, Axwell /\ Ingrosso, Carnage, Hardwell, Malaa, Black Coffee, Dubfire, and Eats Everything. I personally would have given my right arm to be there for Armin in the rain. I couldn’t think of a more magical experience for attendees.
The Johannesburg show at the Expo Center at Nasrec welcomed a record-breaking 32,000 Ultranauts through the gates on Saturday, February 10, for what has proved to be their biggest and most successful Ultra South Africa in Joburg to this date. As a loyal subject of Miami Ultra edition, I can’t imagine anything more exciting than attending Ultra and going on safari.
Ultra’s Resistance brand always brings the heat, and the dance floor was moved into a new warehouse space at Nasrec, which catered specifically to the House and Techno community. Seems like good things come to those who wait! Local Resistance artists including Da Capo, DogStarr, Ryan Murgatroyd, TranceMicSoul, and many more heated up the dance floor before Black Coffee, Dubfire, and Eats everything took the stage to deliver some of their best performances to date.
The Until Until Stage with, get this fans, MTV, hosted the best of the best of the local hip-hop talent, and burst with flavor and soul from start to finish, topping off the hose of successful brand activations over the weekend.
The Main Stage production and performances stunned crowds at the Nasrec, with a display that was an absolutely fitting end to a phenomenal 48 hours of Ultra South Africa.
“Ultra SA brings new surprises each year, and this year was no exception. It also brings new magic each time we produce the show, and 2018 was the most magical yet,” says Shaun Duvet, a partner in Ultra South Africa. “Speaking on behalf of the full Ultra SA team and sponsors, we are blown away by the support of the fans and industry and cannot wait to see what 2019 brings.”
Looks like I’ll be yearning for some time in South Africa for their 2019 edition! We hope to see all you fans there along with us!
