Producer-to-watch Très Mortimer makes a bold debut on Seth Troxler‘s Slacker 85 label with his tantalizing new track, ‘Secrets’, set for release on September 18th. This seductive house anthem is the first glimpse of his forthcoming mini-LP, ‘M1 City’, a tribute to the iconic Korg M1 synthesizer.
Crafted pre-gig with the dancefloor in mind, ‘Secrets’ is a masterclass in refined simplicity. Anchored by TR-909 drums, a rolling bassline, and sultry vocal shots, the track is punctuated by classic Korg M1 synth stabs. Combining these elements with contemporary builds, Mortimer delivers a highly danceable house track that pays homage to his influences—ranging from legends like Robin S, MK, and DJ Deeon to modern names like PAWSA. Très describes the track as “four minutes and 45 seconds of premium dance floor gasoline.”
Reflecting on the creative process, Très says, “I wrote it on a sunny day in LA. I was headlining a warehouse party that night, and all of my best mates were in town. Those are the kind of days when I make my best records.” The crowd’s reaction to ‘Secrets’ has been explosive, and when Seth Troxler heard the track, he knew it had to be signed.
A key figure in Chicago’s house scene, Très Mortimer has steadily built a reputation with his no-frills, dancefloor-focused sound. His previous releases on labels like Mad Decent, Ministry of Sound, and IN/Rotation have garnered him a growing fanbase. His breakthrough came with a rework of Zombies’ 1968 hit ‘Time Of The Season’ (with over 1M streams). His latest single, ‘At Night I Think Of You’, has since been remixed by Seth Troxler and Nick Morgan.
Launched in 2023, Slacker 85 offers a platform for “oddball, esoteric, and diverse sounds,” positioning itself against the overly-polished and demure dance music scene. Spearheaded by Seth Troxler, the label embraces the anti-hero ethos, offering a home for artists who defy the conventional.
With ‘Secrets’ marking the first step toward the release of ‘M1 City’, Très Mortimer’s journey promises to be an exhilarating one. Keep an eye out for more as this rising producer continues to make waves.
