British house duo The Trip kick off 2026 with their new single “House Tool,” landing January 29 as part of fabric SELECTS VI, the latest installment in the influential compilation series spotlighting underground talent.
Built around a groove-heavy rhythm from the first beat, “House Tool” channels the spirit of ‘90s underground house with jacking drums, crisp percussion, and a rolling four-to-the-floor pulse designed for peak-time movement. Both punchy and stripped-back, the track captures that timeless club functionality — a no-frills dancefloor weapon that sets the tone for the compilation’s journey.
Speaking on the record, The Trip share: “We made this track at Oli’s house one afternoon in October. It’s inspired by some of the jacking sounds of the ‘90s US house scenes. It was made in our usual process — inside the box and with a bunch of samples we found from some old records.”
Rooted in UK garage, progressive house, and classic ‘90s house influences, The Trip are the founders of long-running London party series and label Tesselate. After more than a decade curating dancefloor-focused events and releases, their reputation has grown steadily within the underground. Momentum surged through 2024 with outings on Fantasy Traxx and Uncovered, including five tracks featured in Job Jobse’s summer mix.
The upward trajectory continued in 2025 when the duo earned a nomination for DJ Mag’s Best of British Breakthrough Producer Award. They also delivered remixes for Job Jobse’s label and Palms Trax, collaborated on joint EPs with Papa Nugs and Demi Riquisimo, and released their own Clubdance2025 EP. Additional highlights included an appearance on Mixmag Lab and mixes for Feel My Bicep and BBC Radio 1, further cementing their place in the modern club circuit.
Since opening in 1999, fabric has remained a cornerstone of London’s electronic music culture, with its influence extending far beyond the dancefloor through fabric Records and its imprints fabric Originals, FABRICLIVE, and Houndstooth. Launched in 2022 under fabric Originals, the fabric SELECTS series shifted away from traditional DJ mixes to focus on original productions from both established and rising underground artists. Each volume offers a curated snapshot of the scene’s current energy, diversity, and direction — filtered through fabric’s distinct musical lens.
