After a whirlwind summer hitting clubs and festivals all over Europe, techno heavyweight Nicole Moudaber is showing absolutely no signs of slowing down. Even in the face of an upcoming North American tour this fall, the raven-haired maven of pulsating rhythm has characteristically thrown herself into her music, gracing her fans with a myriad of new releases, collaborations, and mixes that leaves no dance-floor tile unturned.
Off of her own imprint MOOD Records, the ‘Seeing It Through’ Remix EP came to the forefront on September 13th, the first of two to be released. MOOD Record favorite Marino Canal and Diynamic mainstay Magdalena each take a turn putting their own spin on the darkly cerebral track “The Sun at Midnight”. Canal’s twist softens the track without dampening its impact, adding a steady drum and a few delicate piano touches, turning “The Sun at Midnight” into the perfect track for an early morning car ride home from the rave. Magdalena’s turn at the decks transforms the track into something even more space-age than it was before, simultaneously melodic and heavy-hitting with just a touch of malice to keep things interesting. Nicolas Bougaïeff then follows suit with their remix of Moudaber’s heavy tech track “Common Dreams”; the track is now even darker and deeper than before, switching the tempo back and forth to create an industrial knockout that both bass and tech-heads will enjoy.
Her own remixes and releases are not to be missed, either. She uses a deft hand when remixing Christian Löffler’s “Ry”, creating something so tangibly profound that you can almost feel as you hear it, simultaneously heart-thumping and delicately touched upon. Moudaber’s own spin on German singer-songwriter Monolink’s “Rearrange My Mind” is also a compelling production, expertly crafted with layers of ethereal vocals, crisp high hats, and sweeping basslines. September 21st saw the release of her third Essential Mix on BBC Radio 1, a two-hour set best described as an honest expression of the ethos of her DJ style; driven and deep, fast-paced and mystifying, simple without being boring and complex without being overwhelming. And as the proverbial cherry on top, Moudaber rounds things up with a much-anticipated return appearance on Adam Beyer’s Drumcode Records, with her track “This is US” slated for release on September 23rd.
With a blizzard of releases, Moudaber has laid the groundwork for what is sure to be a killer tour throughout the states. October sees her going coast to coast, including stops at XS Nightclub in Las Vegas on October 12th, Club Space in Miami on October 19th, and a visit to the freakshow at Escape: Pyscho Circus on October 25th. With Moudaber’s tour lineup coupled with her recent releases, the picture formed is wholly indicative of her personality and style as a DJ: absolutely unstoppable.
