Take Some Time to See Through Christina Novelli’s Eyes | Interview

by The Freaks - Staff

Vocal Trance is known to pull at the heartstrings of its fans due its passionate nature and ability to bring out emotions in their purest form. With ‘Through My Eyes – The Acoustic Sessions Vol. 1’ — Christina Novelli gives us a taste of the purest form of some of her most popular tracks as well as some that had been previously unreleased.

Christina Novelli needs no introduction as she has certainly risen to the top echelon of vocalists in the electronic music scene. Two of her most well-known tracks to date have won the title of Tune of the Year (‘Concrete Angel’ in 2012 and ‘The Air I Breathe’ in 2018), she has worked with many of the most notable trance producers and she has taken the world by storm with her own DJ sets.

Christina took some time out of her busy schedule and had a few words with us about her recent album release and her upcoming ventures in the following interview.

FMF: Over the years, you have made a name for yourself as one of the top vocalists in the trance industry. For your latest venture, you took a turn towards the acoustic side. What inspired you to take on the challenge of putting together your own acoustic album?

Christina Novelli: This is something I had wanted to do for a long time. This album was my opportunity to strip my songs back to the raw beginning and share with my listeners the way I initially wrote and envisioned them and to also share some previously unreleased tracks. This was the perfect time for me to fulfill a goal I had been working towards for over ten years. To be able to do this and to share that vulnerability with my listeners means everything to me.

It’s well known that creating an album is no easy task. What was the most challenging part of the process? What part came to you the easiest?

The most challenging part was the musical arrangement — it was a process that took a lot of time. I worked with an amazing producer, Neil Athale, who really simplified this process.

Listening to both the trance and acoustic versions of these tracks each take you on their own unique journeys. What are the biggest differences in the production processes of each type of track (trance vs acoustic)?

My goal for this acoustic album was to ‘wear my heart on my sleeve’ and to record the most authentic versions of these songs as possible. Recording this album acoustically gave me the opportunity to really communicate my emotions in each song with the listener.

Each track on ‘Through My Eyes (The Acoustic Sessions Vol. 1)’ is absolutely beautiful. But which one is your personal favorite? Why?

That is a very hard question. I couldn’t pick just one. Each song is special to me and reflects a point in time or emotion that I have felt, for this reason it is impossible to choose just one.

Your fans really look forward to seeing you live again whether it’s behind the decks or the microphone. When and where can we catch you next?

I will be touring heavily this year. You can catch my tour dates on any of my socials. Hope to see you at a show.
