As we look ahead to festival season, at the ever-expanding collection of options, there is one festival that always stands out to me. The 2020 edition of Summer Camp does as they have always done and effortlessly blends the worlds of jam, bass, and electronic genres. Scamp, as its lovingly called by its attendees, is gearing up for one of its biggest years to date. With their 20th anniversary, they are posed to achieve what many festivals desire; to have a little bit of something for everyone.
With the announcement of the phase one lineup, Summer Camp dropped some big names within just their headliners. With the likes of Moe or Umphrey’s McGee there is something for those who like the mellow side. They gave some heavy hitters from the bass world with Rezz and Snails. By adding Ween and Joe Russo’s Almost Dead to the mix you got a chance to see some legendary musicians. When you look at the next two tiers of names, you quickly realize they really have given everyone so much to look forward to.
One thing I love about Scamp is that they seem to always have an amazing pulse on their attendees and what they want. They know many are coming to see the headliners but that they also want to see other acts. To make it easier on fans they give you two sets of Almost Dead and three days of Moe and Umphrey’s. This also helps from any one particular set being so crowded you can’t even enjoy.
They also manage to make it one of the more affordable festivals on the circuit. With GA ticket prices under $200 for three days and VIP under $600. Some may think Chillicothe, Il is hard to get to, yet it is only three hrs outside of Chicago.
You can really tell that the curators truly love the music and really want to make an amazing event. With an incredible and diverse lineup and decent prices, Summer Camp to be an absolute can’t miss.
