Smalltown DJs, the celebrated Canadian duo, return with their latest single Only You, out now as part of Dirtybird’s 20th Anniversary celebrations.
Taking a slightly different turn from their usual eccentric club style, Only You leans into emotive lyricism while maintaining the playful spirit that defines Dirtybird. Anchored by an endearing vocal hook—”In a sea of faces, I see only you”—the track captures a sense of optimism and communal connection. Crisp percussion and UK garage-influenced basslines build a deeply engaging atmosphere across nearly four minutes, making Only You an undeniable late-night essential for dancefloors this summer.
“We love working on pretty tracks like this,” said Smalltown DJs. “It really came out of the vocal first and that feeling of longing and connection. Adding the lush melodies with darker ominous reese bass is like a metaphor for life! Hopefully you like it too, and relate to it.”
Comprised of Pete Emes and Michael Grimes, Smalltown DJs have long been a cornerstone of Canada’s electronic music scene. Their sound captures the spirit of outdoor festivals like Shambhala and Bass Coast, alongside the underground energy fostered at their legendary Hifi Club in Calgary. Over the years, they’ve released music through top labels such as Fool’s Gold, Sweat It Out, Night Bass, and Box of Cats. They made their Dirtybird debut in 2023 with Energy alongside Joanna Magik, earning a Juno Award nomination for ‘Underground Dance Single of the Year’ and contributing an official remix of Acid Funk.
Following the release of Only You, Smalltown DJs will join the Dirtybird crew for Dirtybird Campout x Northern Nights Music Festival later this year.
