Today, Slow Joy, the alternative rock project of Esteban Flores, returns with a striking new single, “SLC Punk On An SSRI,” released via MDDN Records. Arriving ahead of his upcoming headlining “I Love You So Much I Could Die Tour,” the track signals a defining creative moment for Flores as he continues shaping the sound of his forthcoming sophomore album, Esteban Flores.

The single also arrives alongside an official music video, further expanding the visual world surrounding the project as anticipation builds for both the album and the upcoming tour.

At its core, “SLC Punk On An SSRI” represents a turning point in Flores’ creative process. According to the artist, the track helped crystallize the direction of the new record, locking in a sonic identity he had been pursuing for years.

“I wanted to make a song (and album) that I’d be proud to show to my heroes. Something that an Isaac Brock might actually fuck with,” says Esteban Flores. “It’s one of those songs that I would still love even if everyone I know told me it wasn’t good. Also, the title is gold.”

Recorded with producer Brett Romnes (known for work with Hot Mulligan, Oso Oso, and Anxious), the track leans into the heavier side of Slow Joy’s evolving sound. Built from dense distortion, layered guitars, and emotionally charged intensity, the song captures a deeply personal headspace—reflecting the period before medication, when racing thoughts begin to blur and overwhelm.

That emotional honesty has been a hallmark of Slow Joy since its emergence. Born out of a period of grief and personal uncertainty, the project quickly resonated with listeners through early releases like “Soft Slam” and “Crawling,” establishing Flores as one of alternative rock’s most compelling new voices. His debut album, A Joy So Slow At Times I Don’t Think It’s Coming, further solidified that trajectory, earning critical praise and support across alternative radio.

With “SLC Punk On An SSRI,” Flores pushes that evolution even further, embracing a louder, more abrasive palette while maintaining the emotional core that defines his songwriting. The result is a track that not only expands the identity of Slow Joy, but also serves as a personal statement of artistic clarity.

The release also sets the stage for a major touring cycle. This summer, Slow Joy will launch the “I Love You So Much I Could Die Tour,” a 21-date North American run featuring support from Bike Routes, Glom, and The High Curbs. The tour will include stops in cities such as Austin, Phoenix, Denver, Toronto, Brooklyn, and Atlanta, before concluding August 14 in Dallas.

As anticipation builds for both the new album and the upcoming tour, “SLC Punk On An SSRI” stands as a pivotal release—capturing a moment where Slow Joy sharpens its identity, deepens its emotional weight, and leans fully into the intensity that has always set the project apart.
