Electronic artist SHIMA continues to expand her boundary-pushing sound with the release of “THE MYTH OF KAMIKAZE (神風の神話),” the latest single from her upcoming debut album Welcome To SHIMAJIMA, arriving September 26 via Young Art Records.
A bilingual exploration of sonic storytelling, “THE MYTH OF KAMIKAZE (神風の神話)” channels both historical and geopolitical themes while weaving together SHIMA’s powerful vocals in English and Japanese. Over a delicate piano melody, warlike drum builds, and atmospheric textures, the track evolves into soaring harmonies, fragmented breaks, and a dreamy guitar-driven climax — a three-and-a-half-minute journey of emotion and cultural resonance.
The single follows previous releases ‘Maitake’, ‘EIYAA’, ‘INVISIBLE’ ‘KARMA’, ‘AWA’, and ‘1807’, each expanding the immersive world of Welcome To SHIMAJIMA. The 10-track project plays as a biopic soundscape — a deeply personal journey that bridges SHIMA’s Japanese heritage with her globally informed, genre-defying production.
Born to an American father and Japanese mother and raised in Tokyo, SHIMA began her career as a J-Pop girl group singer at just 14, signing to a major Japanese label. At 18, she moved to the U.S. to study Music & Computer Engineering at the University of Miami, refining her skills as both producer and engineer. Her unique background has fueled a sound that blends elements of indie electronica, trap, house, and techno into one fluid identity.
Now based in Los Angeles, 2025 has marked a breakout year for SHIMA, with standout performances at Miami Music Week, Coachella DoLaB, and Electric Forest, all building momentum toward the release of Welcome To SHIMAJIMA.
