SHIMA Unveils ‘1807’ – A Spellbinding Fusion of Japanese Folk and Electronica

by Press Release

SHIMA, the Tokyo-born electronic innovator, returns with ‘1807,’ a mesmerizing new single out now via Young Art Records. Blending traditional Japanese folk elements with modern electronica, the track offers a rich, immersive soundscape that highlights her unique cultural and sonic influences.

Built around a sampled Japanese folk song from Hokkaido, ‘1807’ seamlessly merges silky flutes, atmospheric synths, and rhythmic percussion, crafting a hypnotic listening experience. By weaving ancestral melodies with contemporary electronic production, SHIMA bridges the gap between heritage and innovation, delivering a track that is both nostalgic and forward-thinking.

“‘1807’ samples a Japanese folk song that used to be sung by fishermen in the Hokkaido region while working on their sailboats to catch cod fish. The regional dialect is unfortunately part of a shrinking culture that people are increasingly starting to realize the importance of preserving. By combining this folk song with modern synth leads and new influences, I hope that in my own small way I can contribute to keeping these cultures and traditions alive and evolving.” – SHIMA

SHIMA’s musical journey began in Tokyo, where she first gained recognition as part of a J-Pop girl group at age 14. After moving to the U.S. to study Music & Computer Engineering at the University of Miami, she honed her production skills, eventually evolving into a solo electronic artist. Now based in Los Angeles, SHIMA continues to push boundaries, blending elements of indie, trap, house, and techno into her signature sound.

The year 2025 marks a new chapter for SHIMA, with high-profile festival appearances lined up at Miami Music Week, Coachella’s DoLaB, Breakaway, and Electric Forest. With more music on the way, she is poised for an electrifying year ahead.

Stream ‘1807’ now on all platforms and experience SHIMA’s fusion of past and future.
