New Orleans duo sfam return to Bassrush Records with Cash Only, a bold two-track EP pushing deeper into the experimental edges of bass music. Out October 3rd, the release marks their first standalone project on the label and features Los Angeles-based producer snuffy, whose breakbeat-driven 140 aesthetic blends seamlessly with sfam’s warped sonic universe.

The title track, “Cash Only,” transforms leftfield instincts into a swamp-soaked dubstep workout. Elastic bass pressure and croaking leads collide over wide-open negative space, while sharp breakbeat percussion drives restless momentum. The result is a slow-building storm where sfam’s amorphous production meets snuffy’s razor-edged 140 grit.

Speaking on the collaboration, snuffy shares: “Working with sfam has been a long-term goal of mine since the beginning of my music career. This track came together so effortlessly and represents both of our styles so well.”

The EP’s second track, “Keep the Change,” ventures into even stranger territory—a warped, off-kilter cut where low-end weight and disorienting textures bend the boundaries of groove and abstraction.

Reflecting on their creative evolution, sfam say: “We believe this EP is a reflection of how much we’ve grown, both musically and production-wise, after a decade of honing our craft. It was an honor to have our dawg snuffy on the title track as his style really brought it to life.”

Childhood friends Michael Pearson and Jacob Hoerner have forged sfam into one of the most distinctive voices in U.S. bass music. Since emerging on Bassrush in 2020 with “It Never Ends” from the label’s inaugural Prophecy Vol. 1 compilation, the duo’s exploratory sound has earned support from REZZ, Subtronics, and Four Tet, alongside collaborations with EAZYBAKED, Boogie T, and Mersiv. Upcoming performances include Apocalypse: Zombieland, Wakaan, and headline appearances at Substation and The Black Box.

For his part, snuffy delivers a raw hybrid of bass and breaks that has positioned him as one of 140’s rising disruptors. With releases on Subsidia, Odyzey, and Qualia, and collaborations with jordnMoody, EAZYBAKED, and Player Dave, he continues to define a lane of underground innovation and genre-fluid creativity.

Cash Only unites sfam and snuffy in a release that reflects their individual instincts and Bassrush Records’ commitment to cutting-edge bass music.

Cash Only is out on October 3rd across all platforms via Bassrush Records.
