Seven Lions, the visionary producer and founder of Ophelia Records, has unveiled his new album Asleep in the Garden of Infernal Stars—a sweeping, deeply personal project that reconnects him with the foundations of his artistic identity. The record reflects a conscious return to the fantasy, metal, and cinematic influences that shaped his earliest work, reframed through years of evolution and intent.

For Jeff Montalvo, the album’s title was the starting point. Drawing inspiration from the evocative naming traditions of metal and fantasy literature, he aimed to create something that immediately sparked imagery and immersion. That sense of worldbuilding carries throughout the album, which he describes as deliberately crafted and transportive—designed to overwhelm, absorb, and pull listeners into a fully realized universe.

Leading up to the release, Seven Lions revealed a trio of singles that highlighted the album’s emotional and stylistic range. “By the Light of the Moon” reunited him with Kerli for the first time since their 2014 classic “Worlds Apart,” offering an ethereal and nostalgic moment for longtime fans. “So Far Away” featuring Lilly Ahlberg marked his first foray into drum & bass, pairing melodic tension with aching introspection. “Cold as Snow,” his sixth collaboration with HALIENE, leaned into metal-inspired textures, live guitars, and heavy percussion, emerging as one of the most somber pieces in his catalog.

The full album broadens that scope even further. The title track opens the journey with trance-leaning breakbeats and a sense of ceremonial anticipation. “Breaking Me” channels emotional intensity through a commanding, festival-scale sound, while “Delusional” delivers euphoric release driven by No/Me’s soaring vocal performance. Moments of calm arrive with “A Crown of Seven Suns,” before the album pivots into the relentless drum & bass energy of “From Beyond.” “Past You” featuring Oaks explores the weight of letting go, followed by a second collaboration with Kerli on “Thrice Woven,” a cinematic and tension-filled centerpiece. The record closes with “Breathe It Out Slowly,” an intimate and atmospheric finale featuring longtime collaborator Fiora.

At its core, Asleep in the Garden of Infernal Stars represents a reset. Seven Lions has spoken openly about feeling disconnected from the noise and shortcuts of the modern music landscape, choosing instead to focus on intention, craftsmanship, and emotional honesty. The album stands as a reaffirmation of why he began making music—prioritizing depth, collaboration, and human expression over trends.

This release marks another defining chapter in a career that began with a Beatport remix win for Above & Beyond in 2012 and grew through releases on Anjunabeats, OWSLA, and beyond. With iconic tracks like “Strangers,” “Rush Over Me,” and “Need Your Love,” a landmark 2022 album Beyond the Veil, and a touring résumé that includes Red Rocks, Ultra Music Festival, EDC Las Vegas, and Electric Forest, Seven Lions has become a cornerstone of melodic bass. Through Ophelia Records, he has also cultivated a new generation of artists while amassing over a billion streams worldwide.

With Asleep in the Garden of Infernal Stars, Seven Lions delivers a richly detailed, emotionally grounded album that looks inward while expanding outward—honoring his roots while carving a renewed sense of purpose for the road ahead.
