Acclaimed producer, DJ, and visionary artist Seven Lions returns with his highly anticipated single, “By the Light of the Moon (feat. Kerli),” out September 17. Serving as the lead track from his upcoming album, the release reunites Seven Lions with Estonian vocalist Kerli for the first time since their beloved 2014 collaboration, Worlds Apart.
Ethereal and emotionally charged, By the Light of the Moon highlights the undeniable creative synergy between the two artists. Blending soaring, cinematic production with Kerli’s unmistakable vocals, the track evokes a dreamlike energy that bridges nostalgia and evolution—eleven years after first joining forces, their reunion feels even more powerful.
Due this December, the new album marks a bold new chapter in Seven Lions’ artistic journey. Inspired by his early roots in trance and metal while expanding upon the sweeping melodic arcs and immersive soundscapes that define his style, the album captures his vision at its most raw and uncompromising. Reflecting on the project, Seven Lions shared: “This album is about feeling increasingly out of place in the current media landscape…there’s just so much noise. I wanted to turn away from all that and reconnect with what originally made me fall in love with making music. It’s definitely a statement of individuality and acceptance that I have no ‘place’ in EDM other than the one I make for myself.”
Known offstage as Jeff Montalvo, Seven Lions has been pushing the boundaries of electronic music for more than a decade, beginning with his breakout 2012 Beatport remix contest win for Above & Beyond’s You Got to Go. His catalog includes releases on Anjunabeats, OWSLA, Casablanca, and his own Ophelia Records, featuring career-defining tracks like Strangers (with Tove Lo), Rush Over Me (with Illenium, Said the Sky, Haliene), and Need Your Love (with Gryffin, Noah Kahan). His 2022 album Beyond the Veil explored downtempo dance-pop with collaborators like Lights and Vancouver Sleep Clinic, while his 2024 highlights included Not Even Love (with Illenium) and I’ll Wait For You (with Subtronics and Skylar Grey). A top-tier touring act, he has sold out iconic venues like Red Rocks, LA State Historic Park, and the Tacoma Dome, while also headlining festivals such as Ultra Miami, EDC Las Vegas, and Electric Forest. Through Ophelia Records, he has become a defining force in melodic bass, amassing more than a billion streams while championing a new generation of talent.
For her part, Kerli has long been celebrated as one of pop and electronic music’s most visionary voices. The Estonian singer and songwriter first broke through with Walking on Air and her debut album Love Is Dead, earning recognition for her ethereal vocals and striking creative world-building. Over the years, she has collaborated with major electronic artists while cultivating a devoted global following drawn to her otherworldly aesthetic and emotionally rich performances.
With By the Light of the Moon, Seven Lions and Kerli reignite their artistic chemistry, offering a first glimpse into an album that promises to be both raw and transcendent—a powerful statement from one of electronic music’s most emotionally resonant artists.
