Fire!: Blazing the Trail to Elements Lakewood | #TBT

by The Freaks - Staff

This Saturday, December 7th, 2019, New York party collective, Elements will take over the uber kitschy and hella fun Turk’s Inn in Bushwick for the first installment of a curated event series leading up to their 4th annual Memorial Day festival in Lakewood, Penn., Elements Lakewood. Each session will embody the nature of one of their four stages, Earth, Air, Fire, or Water.

With FIRE! leading the way, at the helm of this first event is Belgian transplant and Dirtybird alum, Tech House producer Sacha Robotti, debuting his new label, Slothacid. Joining him on the roaster are a slew of local artists including Elements name stays, The Golden Pony and Dirty Looks, and with a lineup like this in such a dope location, I can already feel my temperature rising!

Elements holds a special place in my heart as it was the first thing I wrote about as a Fresh Music Freak! Last May I went to Elements Lakewood and it turned out to be one of my favorite fests ever. It’s really an amazing vibe and you can read my full festival recap here. Every Elements party I go to takes me back to that magical weekend at camp and that’s why I’m so excited to cut a Persian rug with these guys and I hope those of you who are local to N.Y.C. can make it too! I promise your senses will thank you. Keep reading…

For those of you who follow me, you may have figured out that I have a flair for nostalgia. I love retro and vintage everything, which is why I include so much history in what I write. That’s why I’m so HYPED to tell you about this spot!

The Turk’s Inn was originally a Supper Club in Northwoods Wisconsin, known for its steaks and over the top kitsch. An Armenian Turkish family-owned and operated it from the 1930s until 2014. In the 1970s, after the owner had a heart attack, his daughter Marge Gogian, who was a New York fashion designer, went home to help run the restaurant. Her influences, combined with all the various travel artifacts and cultural flavor dominated the space in bold colors like red and lime green and super fun tchotchkes that made it a truly unique place.

Grandma Likes Her Supper Flame Broiled and Seasoned with Tech House. When Marge passed and the original Turk’s Inn closed in 2014, childhood friends Varun Kataria and Tyler Erickson bought the decor, fixtures and exterior signage at auction and relocated it to Brooklyn, resurrecting it in Bushwick and breathing new life into a piece of American nostalgia that may have otherwise been gone forever. And I am SO glad they did because this AIN’T your grandma’s supper club! If you can join me for “supper” this Saturday, I highly recommend it because I just know the Elements crew are about to cook up some HOT ass beats and I can’t wait to savor the flavor with my feet! Make sure you check back for my recap and photos next week!

Or if you’re local, get your tickets here.

Also, why not check out the Elements New Year’s Eve party at Knockdown Center in Queens, Time + Space featuring Claptone and Shiba San

More to come on that as well! Hope to see you kids out on that dance floor this weekend! Let’s burn some calories you jive turkeys!

Stay Fresh!
