Phoenix International Raceway transformed into a pulsating electronic music wonderland as Rezz headlined her feature album show that captivated the crowd with her unique hypnotic beats and entrancing visuals. Here’s a breakdown of the evening’s performances, featuring sets from Holly, Rusko, TroyBoi, and, of course, Rezz.
Venue and Atmosphere
This event was held inside the raceway and featured a smooth, easy-to-navigate layout, ample parking, and a welcoming crowd. The vibe was energetic yet courteous, with attendees spread out enough to avoid feeling cramped. The overall flow from vendors to the stage and through the various areas was seamless, contributing to a relaxed yet exhilarating atmosphere.
Holly
Kicking off the evening, Holly set the tone with his unique style. His visuals were surreal, bordering on the bizarre, but in a way that pulled the audience into a trance-like state. His remix of “1 Thing” by Amerie had everyone grooving, and his back-to-back moment with Rusko was an unexpected treat that got the crowd hyped for the rest of the night. Overall, it was impressive and oozed dynamic energy to kick off the evening.
Rusko
Rusko’s set was electric from the start. He is like a ball of energy on FIRE at the decks! The crowd erupted as he dropped a new track, quickly followed by another. His setlist included a mix of classic remixes and fresh material, keeping the energy high. He blended iconic samples, like Fur Elise, into jaw-dropping dub electro mixes. His remix of La Roux’s 2009 hit “In for the Kill” had everyone singing along, proving that he knows how to play to a crowd’s nostalgia while keeping it fresh.
TroyBoi
TroyBoi took the stage with new tracks that immediately got the crowd moving. His command of the audience was impressive, with a mix of banging beats and intense visuals that drew everyone in. He used a wide range of samples, from Michael Jackson’s “Billy Jean” to Sam Smith and Kim Petras’s viral sensation “Unholy,” demonstrating his skill at blending genres. His closing track, “ili,” was a personal favorite, leaving the crowd buzzing with excitement. The deep and yet posh bassline is something I can still feel in my bones.
Rezz
Finally, Rezz took the stage, and the anticipation in the air was palpable. Her opening track, “Can You See Me,” set the tone for an equally intense and captivating set. The rework of “Edge” she teased just a few days before was a beautiful highlight, showcasing her evolution as an artist while maintaining the original’s raw energy. The transition into “Open Your Eyes” was so seamless that many in the crowd, including myself, didn’t even realize it had happened. She has such a solid sense of timing and mixing!
“Black Ice”, her monster track with Subtronics, was a standout moment, with the live performance exceeding all expectations. Rezz’s command of the crowd was unparalleled, guiding us through an emotional rollercoaster. Her comment about this being her biggest show in Phoenix was a special moment, especially for those who had seen her perform at smaller venues.
The hard pivot into “Life & Death” shook my soul. I was entranced by the visuals she had running behind her. Another delicious moment in her set was the snippet of her music video featuring Dove Cameron, which added depth to her set. The most unexpected moment of the evening came when she dropped her remix of Disturbed’s iconic track “Down with the Sickness,” a shocking yet exhilarating twist that kept the crowd on their toes.
I stopped dead in my tracks when I caught the first sign that she was about to treat us to some nice relaxation. “Relax” is a personal favorite of mine, and it can instantly transport me into a different headspace. Rezz’s power, storytelling, and dynamic tracks will always amaze me.
Rezz’s concert at Phoenix International Raceway was a masterclass in electronic music, with each artist bringing something unique to the stage. The crowd, the venue, and the performances combined create an experience that will be remembered for a long time. We tip our hat to Relentless Beats for an awesome venue, a stellar lineup, and a top-notch experience.
