Legendary platinum-selling South African Afro House DJ, producer, and television personality Prince Kaybee has opened 2026 with a striking new remix of “Time” by San Franciscan alt-R&B duo Karmacoda, released February 13 via Sola Musa Music. The remix has already received acclaim from Music in Africa and tastemakers such as YourEDM, cementing Prince Kaybee’s continued influence on global dance music.
Rising from South Africa’s club circuits and winning the DJ search competitions 1’s and 2’s in 2015, Prince Kaybee has built a career defined by grit and breakthrough moments. His accolades include multiple South African Music Awards (SAMAs)—Male Artist of the Year, Best Dance Album, and Album of the Year—alongside a Best Dance Album win at the Metro FM Music Awards and repeated Song of the Year honors at the DStv Mzansi Viewers’ Choice Awards. Internationally, he earned Best Collaboration at the Soundcity MVP Awards Festival in Nigeria for his single “Gugulethu” and recognition from the African Muzik Magazine Awards (AFRIMMA). With platinum-selling tracks such as “Club Controller,” “Banomoya,” and “Uwrongo” (featured in TIME Magazine’s 10 Best Songs of 2020), plus collaborations with Lady Zamar, Busiswa, TNS, Shimza, Black Motion, and Ami Faku, Prince Kaybee continues to shape the sound of modern South African dance music.
Karmacoda, a genre-defying duo with a two-decade career spanning electronica, trip-hop, R&B, ballads, and dream pop, have garnered recognition for their soulful and jazz-infused productions. The original track “Time,” lifted from their 2022 Lessons In Time LP, features Jessica Ford (vocals), Brett Crockett (vocals/producer), and Eric Matsuno (bass/multi-instrumentalist), and explores themes of regret and introspection with subtle, autotuned vocals woven over piano chords, a steady shaker, and a hypnotic melody. Karmacoda have also earned praise from Electronic Groove, CLASH Magazine, Wonderland Mag, Earmilk, NPR Music, and RTÉ 2XM, with previous remixes by E39, KRONO, and Oliver Schories amplifying their international reach.
In his new take, Prince Kaybee injects the tender original with his signature Afro House energy. The remix fuses a steady, super-charged Afro House beat with the track’s introspective melodies, layering sublime piano arpeggios that guide listeners through a kaleidoscope of emotions—from introspection to joy, with subtle shades of melancholy. Fans of Sun-El Musician, Zakes Bantwini, and Black Coffee will find a familiar, yet fresh, rhythmic pulse throughout.
Reflecting on his creative process, Prince Kaybee explains: “When I make music I see color, so the vocals on the original remind me of blue and I usually associate blue with a mild cold or a subtle fresh breeze. So before I did the remix I needed to find its color—that’s how it started.”
The remix of “Time” is available now on all platforms via Sola Musa Music.
