Chicago’s underground electronic trio Pixel Grip—comprised of Rita Lukea (vocals), Jonathon Freund (synth), and Tyler Ommen (drums)—returns with their latest single, “Split”, a high-energy track packed with raw emotion and layered meaning. Exploring themes of broken relationships, betrayal, and mental turmoil, “Split” is a cathartic expression of pain and revenge, drawing listeners into an electrifying sonic whirlwind.
The single marks Pixel Grip’s first release of the year and the third track from their upcoming project, following the pulse-pounding “Stamina” and “Bet You Do”. With a signature sound blending darkwave, electronic/EBM, and avant-pop influences, the trio continues to push boundaries, solidifying their reputation as a genre-defying force.
Pixel Grip explains the track’s triple entendre:
“‘Split’ can mean leaving—‘I’m going to split; see you later.’ It also represents heartbreak—my heart split in half. And finally, it refers to a psychological symptom where your perception of someone shifts completely—one moment they’re your friend, the next they’re your enemy. Everything becomes black and white, and you cut them off—you split on them.”
