Trance is the kind of music that lifts your soul to new heights and guides it to a place that makes you feel like you’re floating on clouds. Last night, the legend himself — Paul van Dyk lead NYC to that place.
This summer was filled with tons of fantastic evenings at the Brooklyn Mirage, but those warm nights have turned a bit chilly and the shows have been brought indoors for Avant Gardner. In the Great Hall, trance fans gathered for what would be a night to remember with Sam Allan, Alex M.O.R.P.H., Jordan Suckley and Paul van Dyk.
Sam Allan warmed up the room with some progressive trance and a bit of melodic techno sprinkled here and there with songs like ARTBAT’s remix of Monolink’s ‘Return to Oz’. Alex M.O.R.P.H. was on next played a much deeper and darker set than expected, but it was a very pleasant surprise. Toward the end of his set, he fired things up with some uplifting trance tunes like ‘Empty World’ by Giuseppe Ottaviani.
When Paul van Dyk took to the stage, the crowd went wild because they knew they were about to be taken for a ride. We were blessed with an added hour of magic because of daylight savings time and setting the clocks back. Paul van Dyk took full advantage of that extra hour too and filled it with the best that trance music has to offer. Hearing well known musical gems like ‘Sanctuary’ by Gareth Emery, ‘It’s All About The Melody’ by Aly & Fila and ‘Out Of The Blue’ by System F were some of the best moments of the night. And of course you can’t have a PVD set without his classic tune, ‘For An Angel’. He also lit up the night with some IDs from his upcoming album ‘Guiding Light’, which makes me even more excited for this much anticipated release. His music really did rescue us last night and we couldn’t have asked for a better set from the true trance legend, Paul van Dyk.
Finally, to close out the night — Jordan Suckley got behind the decks to blast the crowd with some hard hitting trance beats like ‘Aztec Curse’. What a way to end the night!
