This past Saturday Brooklyn was hit with what was possibly one of the best summer closing parties of the year, as Jamie Jones brought his traveling curate ‘Paradise’ straight from Ibiza to NYC. Hosted yearly at The Brooklyn Mirage, this year featured three stages and special extended sets. With a diverse and stacked line-up, this party was a must for every techno snob, showcasing Masters At Work and Jamie Jones’ special techno set. This was a lineup to die for and felt like a festival line up for half the price of one!
I arrived at the venue right when Jamie Jones‘ techno set started at King’s Hall. The room was decorated with old school TVs from the 90s that flashed on and off. While standing next to the speaker, I could feel the bass pumping into my chest rhythmically. Jamie played a heavy set and while it was advertised as a techno set, he was able to sneak in some house tunes. For an early set time of 11:30 pm, this room was especially packed. It was hard to predict what Jamie Jones was going to bring to the table for this one set, but he certainly delivered. This was without a doubt the best set of the night.
Next up in the main room was Masters At Work, I was unfamiliar with their music or DJ sets and purposely avoided listening to anything by them prior to the show, as I wanted to walk into this set with no expectation. It was a fun and groovy sound, with tropical and vocal-heavy vibes. Hitting us with classics such as “Show Me Love” by Robin S, this unique house duo came to the Mirage and showed this crowd what house music is all about.
I closed off the night with the one and only Octave One (Live). I love this duo as their energy is off the charts. You’ll catch them on stage jumping and headbanging the entire night to the heavy techno beats they’re known for. Octave One live sets are something truly unique and not many artists can compare to. Once you see them giving you live synthesizers, custom equipment and other live musical goodies in the mix, you will see why I am so passionate about them. While I really would’ve loved to have seen Jamie Jones again for his house set or Lee Foss, this group rarely comes to the U.S so I had to take advantage of this opportunity. They played a heavy set at the packed King’s Hall stage, playing to a raging sweaty crowd. Octave One gave me the closing set I needed to end my summer right and surely the crowd felt the same way. It was an amazing experience to see this group again.
Paradise was a great way to close out one of the last few days of summer, with great production and awesome music. It was a no-brainer that this party was going to deliver. Thoughtfully planned out and executed to perfection. Giving a bit more bang for your buck with the three stages and a range of artists to choose from, it was easy to get lost in the musical goodness for this event. We’re praying Jamie Jones’ Paradise comes back to Mirage next summer, we’ll be counting down the days and the night till the next one!
