Panoram, the enigmatic producer known for his genre-defying soundscapes, has released an immersive new track, “The Question”, via his Wandering Eye imprint. With over a million streams across platforms, Panoram has captivated the global IDM community for the past decade with his off-kilter compositions, earning recognition from tastemakers like Pitchfork, Electronic Groove, Rumore Magazine, The Ransom Note, and The Vinyl Factory. His work has also been featured on Boiler Room and NTS Radio, while his live performances have placed him alongside Kraftwerk and Gold Panda at Sónar Festival in Barcelona. Even Thom Yorke took notice, including a track from Panoram’s album “Pianosequenza Vol.1” in a curated playlist for Sonos.
Hailing from Rome, Raffaele Martirani—the mysterious mind behind Panoram—has maintained an elusive presence, letting his eclectic, synth-soaked productions speak for themselves. In addition to his solo work, he has been part of Amen Dunes for the past decade, touring across the U.S. and Europe, playing at Primavera Sound, Pitchfork Festival, Roskilde, Koko in London, and Teragram Ballroom in Los Angeles.
Under the Panoram alias, he has released music through Firecracker, Running Back, and his own Wandering Eye, crafting an ever-evolving sonic ecosystem that eludes classification. Accompanied by surrealist artwork from Ben Zank, “The Question” unfolds as a spacious, atmospheric journey. Airy synths and a robotic vocoder hook—repeating the phrase, “that is the question”—drift through a psychedelic dreamscape, layered with reverb-drenched drums, floating pads, and a kaleidoscopic synthesizer. The track gradually shifts harmonically, melting into a hypnotic, slow-burning finale that lingers in the listener’s mind.
Speaking about the track, Panoram shared:
“I wanted to create a song for a video I was making. The video consisted of a collage of interviews. The idea was to focus on the moment right after the question is asked—when you see the interviewee’s reaction before they answer. It’s a beautifully suspended moment where everything is still possible.”
