Marine electronica pioneer Oxis shares her latest single “Fingerling,” the newest glimpse into her upcoming album Oxis 8, out January 16th via Boom Records. The track draws listeners into the depths of her signature pop-inflected electronica, blending glitched-out, hushed vocals with meticulously layered synths. A striking bassline emerges midway, adding a captivating shift to the sonic landscape and reinforcing Oxis’ ability to merge subtlety with intensity.
Her forthcoming album follows previous singles “Guili,” “Piranha,” and “Fry,” all of which have earned praise from outlets like Pigeons & Planes and Stereogum. Oxis recently performed stripped-down, intimate reinterpretations of “Piranha” and “Fry” at a live session hosted at The FADER’s New York City headquarters, demonstrating her versatility and attention to emotional detail.
Oxis 8 continues her eponymous project series, an ambitious effort to capture heightened coming-of-age feelings in musical form. Oxis channels the duality of human emotion—adrenaline, pain, and fleeting moments of beauty—into her music with a grounded realism well beyond her years. “The pain and beauty of it all is that nothing is constant, and when something feels sensitive and powerful you have to bite at it quickly, or else it disappears,” she explains of the album’s ethos.
Conceived in 2023 as an exploration of creative freedom and a tribute to her distinct marine electronica sound, the Oxis project has produced seven releases over the past two years. These projects have consistently showcased her evolving sound, earning a devoted following and recognition from major figures in the industry. In 2024, she opened for Julian Casablancas in Los Angeles and New York City, joined Magdalena Bay on their North American tour, and performed her own headline dates in LA, Toronto, and New York. Office Magazine and Pigeons & Planes named Oxis one of the year’s Best New Artists and hosted a Medium Sized Backyard session highlighting her distinctive work.
With “Fingerling,” Oxis deepens her exploration of emotion, texture, and sonic experimentation, offering a compelling preview of Oxis 8. Fans can experience the new single above and anticipate more from Oxis in the coming weeks.
