This year has been a busy one for electronic music innovator Amon Tobin. Just released this month is his second album of the year “Time to Run”, which is the first release from his new project Only Child Tyrant. This is an entirely new moniker for the artist and gives him the liberty to explore different sounds and breakaway from the Tobin musical expectation.
The debut single “Monkey Box” was released in June to rave reviews. This single gave a taste of what was to come on this much-anticipated album. “Monkey Box” is a perfect mix of old school classic rock styling with a new electronic flow. The entire release combines out of this world vocals, bold rock guitar riffs, and an underlying electronic groove. It perfectly intertwines the two genres and culminates into an outstanding release.
He incorporates these different musical stylings and produces a one of a kind sound. The first single Monkey Box is still a favorite from the album with a close second being “Father’s Son”. This track’s haunting lyrics with the deepbass lines give the perfect hypnotic feel.
“Time to Run” is the second album released on his new label Nomark but first under the Only Child Tyrant handle. “Fearful in a Handful of Dust”, was released in April and hit #1 on the iTunes, Bandcamp, and numerous other charts. Both albums are distinct but have Tobin’s signature experimental flavor.
“In the eight years since ISAM, I’ve developed six different projects, each with its own distinct sonic aesthetic. Two of them, including my own name releases and my Two Fingers alias, are established already. Only Child Tyrant is the first of these to come out entirely fresh as a new moniker on my label Nomark.”Amon Tobin
Tobin is also partnering with Bandcamp’s innovative new vinyl pressing service, which activates fans to pre-order physical records. “Time to Run” will be available through Bandcamp’s new service as well as other retailers. Check out the album for yourselves and be blown away by Amon Tobin once again.
