With tools accessible as ever, anyone can step into producing music. On top of skill, it takes talent and creativity to set yourself and your music apart in an increasingly oversaturated market. SNAILS created his unique sound that can be described as ‘vile’ or ‘nasty’ and did just that. Like every genre, Bass Music continues to evolve but the iconic Vomitstep sound is still being blasted at many of our favorite festivals. From early on in his career, SNAILS let it be known that he will create by all means necessary and in ways yet to be explored.
In 2014, after putting work into his music and live performances the Canadian started to gain serious traction in the U.S. when he released “Wild” and “Pump This” on Skrillex’s OWSLA. Still with no albums released, the next year he began to take festivals by storm including EDC Las Vegas, Electric Forest, and Ultra. Not to mention that he was the only producer featured on “Skrillex and Diplo Presents Jack U” which also featured names like Missy Elliot, Justin Beiber, 2 Chainz, and AlunaGeorge. He embarked on his first headlining tour in 2016 where he really began his takeover and sold-out many clubs across the U.S.
September 2017 at his sold-out “Sluggtopia” Red Rocks show, SNAILS announced his debut album and a non-stop 37 show tour run that was to follow, both called “The Shell”. The highly-anticipated album featured notable producers such as NGHTMRE, Foreign Beggars, Dion Timmer, and Sullivan King. “The Shell” also featured distinguished names such as Waka Flocka Flame, Collie Buddz, and Sarah Hudson. After a successful debut album and tour, SNAILS felt like the next step was to create a record label where the weird bass kids and producers could feel like they belong. He wanted to create a space with no boundaries as well as releasing music that he felt was inspiring and equally as weird as he was. “Shake The Ground” in collaboration with Kill The Noise was the first song released on Slugz Music in 2018. He later released “The Shell (Remixes)” and “SLIMEAGEDDON” EP on Slugz Music that year.
With the “SLIMEAGEDDON” EP came a new tour with a new electrifying and mind-blowing stage design called “The Shell 2.0”. The tour spanned over 50 stops in North America and displayed a holographic stage carried by mind-altering production. The creativity doesn’t stop there either, at the end of 2018 SNAILS announced his new comic book series ‘THE SLUGGERNAUT’. The intense visual experience has always been a major component of SNAILS’ live performances and the artist felt like the story he was trying to tell extended beyond the confines of an LED wall and a venue.
After a year of collaborations in 2019, SNAILS headed back on the road for the “World of Slime” tour to close out the year. The initial announcement featured 34 tour stops with more to be announced and support from Rusko, Kompany, Al Ross, Hi I’m Ghost, and JAYCEEOH. It wouldn’t be a SNAILS tour without a SNAILS album, after announcing the tour he also announced the “World Of Slime” EP that went along with it. More stacked than ever the album featured a cast of bass heavy-hitters including Barely Alive, Kill The Noise, Kompany, Subtornics, and Wooli to name a few.
SNAILS is an artist that will continue to carve out the paths that allow him to express himself. This was obvious from the very start of his career. Creativity and the devices we choose to pour that into are no longer constricted by anything. If there’s a way you want to express yourself that is unheard of doesn’t exist or it’s as simple as creating it. Vomitstep is a special type of music that captures the essence of the energy of dubstep. SNAILS felt something that needed to be heard and made a space for its creation.
