Northern Nights 2019 | The Biggest Little Festival You Don’t Know About

by The Freaks - Staff

As my excitement starts to build for this summer’s festival season one, in particular, is building “big” anticipation!  I will be a first-time attendee at the intimate Northern Nights 2019 Music Festival.

Taking place July 19-21, 2019, Northern Nights is located directly off Highway 101 3.5 hours from San Francisco. The location is pristine, nestled on the historic Cook’s Valley Campground on the border of Mendocino and Humboldt Counties. NNMF features six stages including a natural amphitheater overlooking the river.

When I heard Big Wild is a headliner at NNMF 2019 it confirmed my choice to attend this year as a great one! I saw Big Wild this month in Eugene, OR. I was blown away by the versatility and creativity of his performance. Big Wild’s debut album, Super Dream, is a love-centric explosion of nostalgic 80’s dance tracks produced with modern electronic precision.

There is more! It’s not just Big Wild I am excited for. The Southern California tastemakers and record label Desert Hearts will be bringing the techno/house vibes and from what I know, the Desert Hearts crew gets down!

“Northern Nights Music Festival has the best lineup that no one knows about. After our fans discover their new favorite artist on the river, they’ll find that same artist selling out their next show in the Bay Area.”

Festival co-founder Andrew Blap

This year is no different, with indigenous hip-hop artist Xiuhtezcatl (pronounced shu-TEZ-catl) — a climate change activist who also collaborated with Jaden Smith just last month, Noodles— a Filipino woman from the Bay Area who has an alter ego as Kehlani’s DJ, and Dirtybird’s all-star Sacha Robotti.

Diversifying the lineup even further are notable bass acts CharlestheFirst and Shades (Eprom x Alix Perez), funk-fueled Con Brio and The Funk Hunters, the electronic-dance sounds of Australia’s Crooked Colours, a takeover hosted by Burning Man’s DISTRIKT camp, and hip-hop’s Odie from San Francisco’s Empire Records.

I go to music festivals to experience community, freedom of expression, art, unity, dance, and love. Combining those elements in the beautiful outdoors is my happy place. After having a bittersweet experience at a huge festival in 2015, I decided to explore smaller, intimate and more responsible electronic music festivals. Northern Nights Music Festival embodies the experience I am looking for. A small festival with a responsible vibe and eclectic fusion of art, dance, spiritual awareness and above all a passion for dance music!

See you there!
