Movement 2019 | Get Ready Detroit, it’s Almost Time

by The Freaks - Staff

I can feel the excitement and anticipation getting stronger every day. The days are getting warmer, we are getting closer to summer, and that can mean just one thing. It’s almost time for Movement!

The final planning is already in effect for the annual Techno trek to Detroit. The set times have been released; do you know when your favorite artist is playing? The multiple afterparty dates and locations have been revealed; have you made your after-show plans? Now that your arrangements have been made, all we have left to do is count the days until we are reunited at Hart Plaza.

Movement is one of the longest-running dance music festivals in the world. Thousands of people from across the globe are making their way to the birthplace of Techno to celebrate the music and the heritage of the city. Diversity runs strong in Detroit and you can really see that at Movement; people of all ages come for the sights, sounds, and culture this city has to offer.

The five stages at Movement will play host to the bevy of talent from around the world. Each of these stages have their own distinct style and personality. Hart Plaza is set up for easy access to all the stages and makes it effortless to move from one to another.

The lineup for this year is outstanding: Orbital, Amelie Lens, ANNA, Richie Hawtin, Nicole Moudaber, Josh Wink, Charlotte De Witte, Disclosure and so many more. The fan favorite this year would have to be Orbital. The excitement is palpable for this English duo to make their way back to the States. The anticipation for their live set is setting the interwebs on fire. Belgium export Amelie Lens is also a do not miss. Her dark, deep, high energy performances are always exceptional. A triple threat will blow the place away on Sunday; Dubfire b3b Nicole Moudaber b3b Paco Osuna. These three dominate solo but back to back to back will definitely be phenomenal.

While at the fest, you can also revel in the many impressive art installations as well as the tasty food options. Enjoy the grassy lounge area and take time to chill out, get some shade, and take in all the wonderment that is Movement. One of the many great perks of this fest is if you purchase the weekend pass you can exit and re-enter as you please. So, come early, leave late, and take a midday break if you need it!

Movement is also a family-friendly event. Kids 12 and under can enter free when accompanied by a parent. Come instill the love of music in your kids and expose them to the exhilaration of Electronic Dance Music, culture, and art.

There are many people out there that have attended this festival since its inception and have seen it grow over the years. This year will be my second year attending Movement and, in my opinion, the second time is the BEST time. The first year attending any festival, you are getting the feel of things; getting to know your surroundings and the vibe of the fest. The second year you know what to expect and are prepared for what will be a magnificent weekend.

Your 2019 Techno Adventure is only a few weeks away, Memorial Day Weekend, May 25th through May 27th at Hart Plaza in Detroit. Tickets are still on sale, so get them while you can. Make your plans and join us for what is sure to be an experience like no other!
