Trailblazing UK electronic artist Modestep has returned in full force with the release of “Bodybag”, a searing new single that marks the beginning of a bold new chapter. Released today, the track paves the way for the long-awaited arrival of Modestep’s next full-length album, Give Up The Ghost — his first studio LP in over a decade.

Anchored in a brooding 140BPM groove, “Bodybag” blends the ferocity of early 2000s dubstep with cinematic synthwave textures and a face-melting drum & bass climax. Guttural basslines, analog synth grit, and explosive percussive elements collide beneath soaring vocal melodies, offering a deeply textured listening experience. It’s a dark, dystopian roller that channels Modestep’s roots while pushing his sound far beyond anything he’s done before.

“I had been trying to make 140BPM music that moves into new territory while also maintaining the vibe of dubstep that I first fell in love with,” shares Modestep. “This sound captures everything I love about the genre, and nods to very early Modestep — more deep and wobbly sounds with a strong vocal melody up front. Everything from the sound design and drums to the vocals hint at a darker and more melodic approach to Modestep music.”

With “Bodybag”, Modestep introduces a sonic and thematic evolution that sets the stage for Give Up The Ghost — a concept album exploring the existential crisis of human creativity in an age of rapidly advancing artificial intelligence. The record envisions a world where AGI has replaced human artists, asking what becomes of our emotional expression when machines learn to replicate it.

The album promises a high-octane fusion of drum & bass, dubstep, rock, and live instrumentation, continuing Modestep’s legacy as a genre-defying force that refuses to play by the rules.

Modestep will take his reimagined sound global this summer with a slate of high-profile appearances across Europe and the United States, including performances at Download Festival, Rampage Open Air, and more.

Give Up The Ghost is more than just a return — it’s a reawakening. And with “Bodybag”, Modestep proves he’s not only back — he’s leveling up.
