Detroit mainstay Mister Joshooa steps into the spotlight with his first solo EP on Carl Craig’s iconic Planet E Communications, delivering a raw and mind-bending collection titled Settle Down.
A longtime staple of Detroit’s underground, Mister Joshooa brings his seasoned touch as a DJ, producer, and sound engineer to the four-track release—each cut steeped in the city’s deep-rooted musical lineage but laced with his own warped, lucid flair. Known for commanding dancefloors at local institutions like TV Lounge and Lincoln Factory, he now carves out a bold new chapter with Settle Down, following his previous appearance on Carl Craig’s Detroit Love Vol. 2 compilation.
The title track “Settle Down” kicks off the EP with rubbery basslines, live percussion, and twisted vocal echoes—a rolling, hypnotic groove built for late-night immersion. “Snake Oil” delivers a minimal yet psychedelic journey, pulsing with subversive energy and deep rhythmic focus. On the B-side, “Stop Me” ventures further into experimental territory, layering off-kilter melodies, spaced-out FX, and a woozy swing. Closing cut “Step Up” hits hardest, unleashing crunchy drum machines, ominous synth washes, and distorted textures in a gritty techno finale.
With this release, Mister Joshooa proves himself a vital voice in Planet E’s next wave, channeling the past, present, and future of Detroit with a style that’s all his own.
