Mazare closes the chapter on his latest EP with “Ego Death,” a high-impact collaboration with Newshapes that pushes the Italian producer’s metal-electronic sound into even heavier territory. Released July 31, 2026 via Universal Music Italia, the track fuses drum & bass, metalcore, post-hardcore, and EDM into a volatile finale built around soaring vocals, crushing instrumentation, and frenetic breakbeats.
The collaboration arrives at a pivotal point in Mazare’s evolution. A longtime Monstercat mainstay, the Northeast Italian producer has spent the past six years developing an eclectic sound that can shift from emotionally charged pop-rock melodies to full-throttle metal and electronic hybrids. With more than 35 million Spotify streams to his name, his music has earned support from SLANDER, Illenium, Seven Lions, Said The Sky, Dabin, Koven, Don Diablo, and other major names across electronic music.
“Ego Death” provides a fitting conclusion to the EP precisely because it refuses to settle into one lane. The track begins with a washed-out, sidechained synth pad and an arresting vocal performance from Newshapes frontman Ian Mann, creating the sense that a massive EDM drop is about to arrive. Instead, the production takes a sharp left turn, detonating into a bruising combination of metalcore and drum & bass.
Frenetic breakbeats race beneath the impact of live acoustic drums, while heavy guitars and electronic production collide with the urgency of a post-hardcore performance. The result lands somewhere between the genre-blurring energy of Pendulum, the melodic punk-rock instincts of blink-182, and the modern heaviness of Bring Me The Horizon.
The track’s genre-crossing approach follows a creative path Mazare has been refining throughout his career. His earlier releases have demonstrated a willingness to move between aggressive electronic production and more emotional rock-influenced songwriting, a quality that has helped him establish a distinctive identity within the increasingly fluid bass music landscape.
That versatility has also earned attention from the wider electronic community. CLASH Magazine previously described “The End” as a “potent piece of metalcore,” highlighting its full-throttle riffs, diving breakdowns, dynamic percussion, and guest vocals from Lost In Hollywood frontman Amon Garrasi. Meanwhile, EARMILK praised the “glitchy, hypnotic vibe” of “Unholy,” another collaboration with IMPVLSE that showcased the fuzzed-out yet precise character of Mazare’s production.
The momentum has been building for years. We Rave You previously called Mazare an artist “on the rise,” pointing to his progression from a steady run of singles toward his debut EP, Paracosm. His growing catalogue across Monstercat and Insomniac Records has established him as one of the artists helping bridge the gap between contemporary bass music and heavy alternative sounds.
For Mazare, that boundaryless approach can be traced back to his childhood in Northeast Italy. Growing up surrounded by his father’s record collection, he absorbed music from artists such as Pink Floyd, U2, and Genesis before electronic music entered the picture in a major way after hearing David Guetta’s “When Love Takes Over” in 2009.
His influences have since expanded to include The Prodigy, Noisia, and Bring Me The Horizon, helping shape a production style that can move between punishing drops and emotionally driven songwriting without losing its identity.
The collaboration with Newshapes makes particular sense within that evolution. Hailing from Glasgow, Scotland, the alternative rock and post-hardcore band have developed a sound built around anthemic melodies, heavy instrumentation, and emotionally direct songwriting. Their music draws from emo, modern rock, and electronic influences, while their energetic live performances have helped establish them as one of Scotland’s promising emerging heavy acts.
“Ego Death” represents a meeting point between those two worlds, with both acts bringing an existing relationship with drum & bass and electronic production into the collaboration.
“I was looking for the perfect conclusion for this EP, something that would sum up all the sounds, styles and atmospheres I went through with the whole project,” Mazare explains. “That’s how Ego Death was born, a testament to breaking boundaries and going out of your comfort zone. And as I was looking for the right band to bring on board for the project, I came across Newshapes and was impressed by their sound and their range. It was an instant match and it’s safe to say I’m beyond happy with how the song turned out, they absolutely killed it!”
For Newshapes, the collaboration offered an opportunity to push their own electronic influences further than before.
“When Mazare approached us to collaborate, we instantly knew it was something we wanted to be a part of,” the band shares. “We knew Mazare had made a name for himself blending drum & bass with metal and post-hardcore influences; while we’ve always woven drum & bass and electronic elements into our own post-hardcore sound. We’re all huge fans of the genre and have even explored it in our own tracks like ‘reach’, so this felt like the perfect opportunity to fully embrace those influences more than we ever have before. It was such fun and rewarding collaboration, and we think the result feels like a natural and exciting meeting point between our two worlds.”
With “Ego Death,” Mazare and Newshapes turn genre collision into the central idea rather than a side effect. The track’s shift from atmospheric electronics to metalcore breakdowns and drum & bass intensity makes it a fitting finale for the EP — and another clear example of why Mazare continues to stand out within the rapidly evolving intersection of electronic and heavy music.
