Mason Maynard is the Next-Gen Tech House Music Luminary

by The Freaks - Staff

What some DJs and producers can take decades to achieve, Mason Maynard accomplished almost overnight. With his first release on hometown legend Solardo’s Solä at the age of 21, the Manchester-born DJ and producer just dropped a sizzling new club-crushing EP “Lookin’ At Me” on his own label Fantazia.

It was at the Manchester dance festival Parklife that Maynard found his love for House and Techno music seeing legends like Jamie Jones and Patrick Topping for the first time. Maynard found warmth in the scene saying “Everyone is friendly. None of it’s materialistic. It’s all about the moment. Instead of the focus being on people, it’s on music. That’s what I related to most.” During the first-ever Solardo Sessions night in the basement of a bar in the Northern Quarter of Manchester, Maynard approached Mark Richards of Solardo with some SoundCloud links in hopes of getting them released on their label. While the tracks were declined, it did earn him an invitation to come sit-in at their studio.

Shortly after he released his first EP under Solä and the track “False Truths” was being blasted in clubs everywhere. Later in 2017, he released “Puffy” under Danny Howard’s Nothing Else Matters Label, getting over two million streams on Spotify. Green Velvet’s Relief Records and Lee Foss’s Repopulate Mars both hosted new releases by Maynard in 2018 and 2019. His newest EP boasts funky, vocal-led tracks like “Lookin’ At Me” and ear crushing bass frequencies like “Out of Line” that are undoubtedly future hot picks for Tech House DJs around the world.

What he lacks in age he more than makes up for in vision and creativity.  At 22 he was named “one to watch” by BBC Radio 1’s Monki, garnishing support from Juggernauts like Carl Cox, Claude VonStroke, Hot Since 82 and more. In the last two years, he has been hard at work with multiple releases and a plethora of performances. From stages at EDC Japan, CRSSD, Creamfields and a stint at BODYWORKS HÏ Ibiza with Eric Prydz, the young Brit has been leaving his mark and ensuring his name is known among club-goers and industry goliaths alike.

His sound is best described as unique and catchy, with loud and fat basslines, funky Nu-disco grooves, and all-around smashing Tech House vibes. Judging by his latest EP release and performance at Holy Ship! Wrecked and CRSSD After Dark, coupled with appearances at ABODE In The Dock right around the corner, he shows no signs of slowing down. With so much accomplished already, the future is bright for #ManCrushMonday Mason Maynard and I am ecstatic to see what is yet to come. Do not sleep on this dude, find his next stop near you and buy a gang of tickets for you and your friends. If they don’t know, they need to.
