Malixe and Oddly Godly Explore New Emotional Depths with “Close”

Two sonic shapeshifters collide as Malixe and Oddly Godly unveil “Close”—a moody, genre-warping trap single out April 18 via Insomniac’s BREAK ROOM imprint. Known for pushing boundaries and never sticking to one lane, the two artists ease off the throttle for a track that trades chaos for clarity, building something introspective, cinematic, and sonically restrained.

Opening with gentle breakbeats and ambient textures, “Close” slowly unfurls like fog dissipating at sunrise. Dreamy melodies float alongside pitched-up vocal glimmers, while distorted low-end pulses simmer just beneath the surface. The result is haunting yet heavy—less about the drop, more about the drift.

Though it marks their first official collaboration, the creative synergy between Malixe and Oddly Godly has been brewing behind the scenes. After bonding over a shared love of genre fusion and cinematic storytelling, Malixe—now based in Salt Lake City—sent a rough sketch that quickly caught fire. What followed was a seamless collaboration shaped by emotional depth and precise sound design.

“This song was so much fun to make and is such a perfect blend of both of our styles,” says Malixe. “We’re excited for it to finally be out and it’ll be the first of many songs we release together.”

Oddly Godly adds, “I hope this song can bring listeners a sense of peace and focus.”

No stranger to BREAK ROOM, Malixe recently teamed up with Hex Cougar on “Dream of U” from the acclaimed Embody EP—earning nods from outlets like EDM Identity, Trap City, and The Dub Rebellion. With festival appearances at Countdown NYE and Get Lucky, plus support slots for RL Grime, Peekaboo, and Virtual Riot, he’s emerged as one of experimental bass’s most versatile voices.

Meanwhile, Oddly Godly brings a discography that spans trap, hardwave, and otherworldly soundscapes, with collabs alongside TWERL, Pauline Herr, and Jon Casey, plus a co-signed remix for Seven Lions. His signature sound is like an audio hallucination—unpredictable, cinematic, and texturally rich.

Together on “Close,” the duo step away from their usual club-focused artillery to tap into something deeper—an emotionally rich and immersive single that still carries a cutting edge. It’s a glimpse into a more vulnerable, nuanced lane for both artists, and by all accounts, it’s only the beginning.

Malixe and Oddly Godly’s new single “Close” is available now on all platforms via BREAK ROOM Recs.
