Chicago-born DJ, producer, and Hot Creations/Repopulate Mars founder Lee Foss has released a fresh rework of fellow Chicago legend Joe Smooth’s iconic house track ‘Promised Land’ today via Armada Music. This new, disco-infused version is primed to captivate dance floors worldwide, blending the classic’s timeless appeal with Foss’s modern production skills to unite seasoned ravers and new fans alike.
Originally released in the late ’80s, Joe Smooth’s ‘Promised Land’ became one of the most beloved anthems in the Chicago house scene. The track’s message of love and acceptance resonated deeply with audiences, and its impact was undeniable. Upon its release, it reached #56 in the UK Singles Chart, ranked 20th on Mixmag’s “100 Greatest Dance Singles of All Time” in 1996, and was placed 4th on DJ Mag’s “Top 100 Club Tunes” in 1998. The song’s lasting influence also saw it featured in Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas (2004) and the 2024 film All Of Us Strangers.
Now, Lee Foss breathes new life into this house classic. His rework retains the timeless vocal hook while adding his signature touch with new piano chords, brisk stutters, and a disco-inspired twist. This revamped version amplifies the original’s dance-floor magic while giving it a fresh energy perfect for today’s club scene.
Foss shared, “‘Promised Land’ is one of my all-time favorite Chicago house classics, and has given me so many moments of joy, both DJing and on the dance floor. I’m honored to have the opportunity to remake this iconic track and reimagine its story for a new generation of ravers and clubbers. I’m excited to see this fresh take connect with audiences all over the world.”
Joe Smooth also expressed his appreciation, saying, “It’s incredible to witness the lasting impact of ‘Promised Land’ over the years, especially among some of the genre’s most influential figures like Lee Foss. The song’s message remains close to my heart, and I’m deeply grateful for versions like this that keep ‘Promised Land’ resonating with new generations.”
