Dutch-based electronic trio Kraak & Smaak unveil their latest single “Isn’t It Strange”, featuring The Undercover Dream Lovers, marking the fourth and final preview from their highly anticipated upcoming album Velvet Seas. Released via their own imprint Boogie Angst, the collaboration bridges the trio’s signature instrumental finesse with Matt Koenig’s lush indie-pop psychedelia, crafting a warm, cinematic soundscape that feels both nostalgic and forward-thinking.
Recorded together in Los Angeles during sunset hour, “Isn’t It Strange” radiates with slow-burning energy — its dreamy vocals stretched over a haze of reverb and echo. Built on a pulsing bassline and shimmering synths, Koenig’s falsetto glides effortlessly through the production, infusing the track with emotional depth and widescreen allure.
The single follows “Travel Light”, a vibrant, orchestral-inspired journey into 70s disco fronted by longtime collaborator IVAR, further showcasing Kraak & Smaak’s ability to traverse genres while maintaining their signature groove.
The Undercover Dream Lovers, the project of Pittsburgh-born, LA-based songwriter and producer Matt Koenig, has become known for fusing elements of indie rock, disco, and psychedelia into a modern pop sensibility. Since debuting in 2016, his distinct sound and visual aesthetic have cultivated a loyal fanbase drawn to his textured, retro-futuristic style.
As anticipation builds for Velvet Seas, Kraak & Smaak are preparing for an extensive European tour this fall and into 2025, bringing their celebrated live show and DJ sets to cities including Madrid, Barcelona, Budapest, and Brno. A major highlight will be their album release show at Melkweg during Amsterdam Dance Event (ADE) on October 22, marking a powerful homecoming moment at one of the world’s most influential gatherings for electronic music.
Formed by Oscar de Jong, Wim Plug, and Mark Kneppers, Kraak & Smaak have spent over two decades defining the Dutch electronic landscape, blending disco, funk, house, and soul into their analog-rich sound. Their global journey has included performances at Coachella, SXSW, Glastonbury, and Sziget, along with remix work for icons such as Moby, Röyksopp, and Aretha Franklin.
With “Isn’t It Strange”, Kraak & Smaak and The Undercover Dream Lovers deliver a lush, introspective closer to the Velvet Seas singles — a final glimpse into what promises to be one of the trio’s most expansive and emotionally resonant records to date.
