King Kaye, the rising New York-based alt-electronic artist known for blending raw emotion with genre-defying production, has officially announced his upcoming EP, THE DARK SIDE OF ENLIGHTENMENT, arriving August 26. The six-track project plunges deep into contrast—fusing spiritual exploration with the visceral edge of booming bass and piercing synths.
Self-described as “self-help as sound,” THE DARK SIDE OF ENLIGHTENMENT is a sonic journey through temptation, reflection, and survival. The EP uses elements of nature and mysticism as metaphors for the internal struggle of chasing higher purpose while facing life’s darker realities. “From the descent into quick fixes—sex, drugs, procrastination—to a whole new lens of self-reflection, this project is the sound of affirmations and reassurances happening in real time,” says King Kaye. “It’s the most authentic version of myself I’ve ever put out.”
Leading the charge is his searing new single, “FIGHT!”, out now. The track is both a declaration and a lifeline, laced with swirling synths, tactile sound design, and a soaring structure built for catharsis. A sonic weapon forged from pain and resolve, “FIGHT!” emerged from a deeply personal chapter in King Kaye’s life.
“I wrote this song shortly after getting news about the passing of my childhood best friend and my father’s MS diagnosis,” he shares. “It became a vessel to vent aggression and sorrow—a coming-of-age story rooted in mental health and personal resilience. At first, it was about avoidance… but the message evolved. The only way forward is through. Eventually, it became an anthem for my parents, especially during my dad’s rehab.”
“FIGHT!” follows the release of the meditative “Enlighten Me”, another standout from the EP that has garnered praise from outlets like Ones To Watch, Grimy Goods, NOCTIS, and New Scene. Both tracks were fully written, produced, and recorded by King Kaye, with mixing and mastering from Alex Poeppel (Roger Waters, Lil Nas X, Telescreens) at Kensaltown East NYC. The visual companion to “Enlighten Me” draws symbolism from the Tarot’s Major Arcana, reflecting his deliberate pace through spiritual fog in a black-and-white cinematic lens.
Hailing from New York, King Kaye has been immersed in music since childhood—spinning records as a DJ at 9 and crafting his own beats by 12. His 2020 debut, Nothing But A Pipe Dream, made waves with the visual for “AS THE SUN FALLS” premiering at his local movie theater. His 2023 release, The Status Quo, showcased his expanding artistry with the fiery single “ARE YOU EVEN LISTENING?”
