Inspired by the flow of yogic energy and bridging the gap between and wellness, LA-based DJ and producer Jessica Skye has released her second album, Fluō State 002, via Platoon.

The title Fluō derives from the Latin for flow, and this enchanting, melodic body of work takes listeners on a transcendent journey from the yoga mat to the dancefloor. Informed by her dedicated practice as a yoga teacher, Skye crafts a sonic safe space that encourages the listener on a passage from relaxation, to being energised and present in the moment.

Drawing on her 14 year career teaching yoga by day and DJing at some of the world’s most iconic venues by night, the dynamic yet deeply soothing album moves seamlessly between ambient soundscapes, downtempo electronica and organic inspired, groove-led dance tracks, such as Helios Rising and Twelfth , acting as a guide for lovers, wellness devotees and yogis alike to find their own unique “sense of flow”.

Purposefully arranged to reflect the flow of energy in a yoga class. It opens with calming ambient soundscapes, before gently and gradually intensifying the tempo and intensity across the album’s duration. Opener Luna Lullaby employs dreamy pads, soft keys and chiming bells, with its binaural qualities specifically designed to enhance the listener’s wellbeing practices.

Elsewhere with recent single Tropic of Pisces, the playful marimba leads the groove giving major summer feels in Tropic of Pisces. A deep gliding bass, melodic pads, rising strings and dream-like rich vocal cuts evoke feelings of sun-drenched dancefloors. While Nimbus’s slow, deep synths and stirring guitar strings create a rich tapestry of sound, and the sound-bath inspired Somnus City acts as a sonic ‘Savasana’.

As the album’s ‘peak tracks’, Enter Nyx and Mindgames offer a moment of crossover to the dancefloor. With both previous singles reaching the Top Ten on Beatports Organic House chart.

Fluō State 002 is released during Mental Health Awareness Month in the US, Mental Health Awareness Week in the UK, and coinciding with World Meditation Day on May 21, the album, Jessica says, takes inspiration from her work across wellness and music – and she hopes the tracks will boost other people’s practice, too. Since music is such a powerful tool to enhance both movement and meditative practices.

She said: “Music has always been a means of escapism, a way for me to evoke mood and feeling. It has an amazing ability to bring people together in any setting.”

Skye affirms that the album as a whole has acted as an incredible outlet for her two most loved and meaningful endeavours: wellness and dance music. Having spent much of the last decade touring the globe, teaching yoga by day and stepping behind the decks at iconic venues by night, she says her two passions, although seemingly opposed, hold the same energy and power – and accordingly, Fluō State 002 is designed to enhance both meditation and movement on the dancefloor.

“People often think teaching yoga and DJing are two polarised paths but they are basically the same job,” explained Jessica, who is an Apple Fitness+ trainer, curating and leading yoga workouts, mindful cooldowns and meditations. “With both roles, you are holding a space for people, reading the room, and there’s an exchange of energy. You are also leading the way and using music to guide the energy”.

“Whether you are on the dancefloor or on your mat practising yoga, you are letting the music carry your energy, moving to the beat, and expressing yourself freely – and that’s what I wanted to explore with Fluō State 002.”

“Wellness and mental health in the music industry is something that’s really important to me and I’m currently exploring ways to help and support my peers, starting with music as a medium to support a wellness practice”.
