After refining his sound behind the scenes, DJ and producer James Kennedy returns on January 16 with “Try Again,” a gritty, club-driven tech-house reinterpretation of Aaliyah’s iconic original. The release marks a pivotal moment in Kennedy’s evolution, arriving via Hexagon Records, the globally respected imprint founded by Don Diablo and known for spotlighting forward-thinking electronic artists. Landing on the label signals a major step forward for Kennedy as he enters a renewed creative phase.

“Try Again” reimagines the beloved classic through a modern lens, pushing the tempo with a faster BPM, heavier low-end, and a rawer edge built for peak-time dancefloors. The track reflects the refined production direction Kennedy has been shaping in the studio, balancing familiarity with a tougher, contemporary tech-house energy designed to hit hard in club settings.

Speaking on the release, James Kennedy shares, “I’m super excited to share the music I’ve been working on and couldn’t have asked for a better label to kick things off with than Hexagon. I’ve been a huge fan of Don for many years now and can’t wait for everyone to hear this one.”

Kennedy’s profile has continued to rise in recent years, evolving well beyond his breakout visibility on Vanderpump Rules. As a DJ, he has delivered high-energy performances at major events including Coachella’s Neon Carnival, Stagecoach (Diplo’s HonkyTonk), EDC, North Coast Music Festival, and Chasing Summer. His club résumé includes standout appearances at Exchange LA, Rebel Toronto, and Echostage DC, alongside ongoing residencies with LIV at Fontainebleau Las Vegas, Big Night Entertainment Group in New England, and Borgata in Atlantic City.

Outside of music, Kennedy has remained active in supporting causes close to him. Over the past year, he has participated in fundraising efforts for The Midnight Mission in Los Angeles and continued to advocate for dog adoption through Pups Without Borders, including a recent performance at the organization’s annual Christmas Gala.

With “Try Again,” James Kennedy signals the beginning of a fresh creative era, offering the first glimpse of more original material on the horizon and reaffirming his place within the modern house music landscape.

“Try Again” is out January 16 via Hexagon Records.
