Born and bred in the heart of New York City, multi-instrumentalists, vocalists, and producers Aidan Dolan and Nicola Wincenc—collectively known as Howl—return with their latest electrifying release, “Million Ways To Break,” out today, May 9.

A follow-up to their hard-hitting debut single “The Kill,” which paired cyberpunk sonics with ominous vocals, “Million Ways To Break” showcases a more emotional and melodic side of Howl, capturing the conflicted euphoria of love, freedom, and letting go. The track pulses with a melancholic energy—equal parts raw and danceable—inviting listeners on a cinematic ride through fleeting romance and resistance to control, whether human or cultural.

It’s about the conflicted feelings of your emotions around romance,” says Nicola Wincenc. “It’s not about one specific relationship, but that desire to live in the now—have fun without worrying about where it’s all going.

Aidan Dolan adds, “It has a melancholic but forceful sound. It really shows another side of us. It’s beautiful, and more song-forward. It’s the other side of the spectrum of Howl.

Produced alongside 10x GRAMMY® nominee Damian Taylor (Bjork, The Prodigy, Arcade Fire, The Killers), “Million Ways To Break” refines the duo’s genre-bending vision—a fearless blend of alt-rock, grunge, and early electronic influences, with nods to cinematic cult classics like The Matrix, Fight Club, and Blade. Drawing comparisons to genre innovators like The Prodigy, Justice, Massive Attack, and Depeche Mode, Howl emerges as a potent new force in alt-electronic music.

As the duo gears up for a run of live shows in New York City, “Million Ways To Break” continues to build their dynamic catalog, pushing sonic boundaries while staying true to the gritty pulse of their hometown.
