Every electronic music genre has their stereotypes. The snobby techno scene, the bro dog EDM scene and the too cool for school Drum and Bass scene.
For old school Drum and Bass fans, they might appear too cool for school, but they are used to being over-looked. They’ve always been pushed off to the side room of the big events. The dark corner of a warehouse rave circa 1998, but the times they have changed!
For example, Drum and Bass is alive and well in the city of Houston, Texas. The Purrin Lion Crew has been a part of the Houston music scene for well over 20 years! Established in 1995, they’ve been an integral piece in the ever-changing Houston rave scene and have stayed relevant when other crews have come and gone.
One essential way the Purrin Lion crew has stayed relevant is they continue to throw the BEST drum and bass events in the city! Their monthly event FRENZI, which started in 2010, has brought some of the most massive artists from around the world. In 2018 alone, they’ve hosted Roni Size, LTJ Bukem, Total Science, Calyx & TeeBee, SpectraSoul and Rene LaVice. With no plan in sight on stopping the slew of artists from gracing the Houston stage, their first show of 2019 is coming in hot with Dave Owen.
Dave Owen has been DJing and producing drum and bass since the early 2000s. He credits his musical influences and style from growing up and dividing his time between the States and the UK. Owen has toured around the globe and continues to play some of the best sets when he makes his way through Texas.
The electronic music scene continues to evolve not only in Houston but in all areas of the world. In Houston, we can count on the Purrin Lion Crew to continue to bring artists to the city; for as long as the Houston community will support drum and bass and the local music scene. They are a staple in the city and we wouldn’t have it any other way!
Be on the lookout for their monthly events,
