Rising Chinese-American producer and DJ HELANG kicks off Asian American Pacific Islander Heritage Month with her commanding new single “Hits Different,” out May 2nd via HILOMATIK, the techno-forward sub-label of Oliver Heldens’ Heldeep Records. A fierce and atmospheric offering, the track marks a significant career milestone for HELANG—her debut on one of techno’s most respected imprints and a bold tribute to her heritage and identity.
“Hits Different” delivers everything fans have come to expect from HELANG: deep, hypnotic basslines, pulsating rhythms, and an immersive sonic palette that evokes both mystery and movement. “I feel like I always am, but especially lately, living life through a lens of discovery, adventure, and seduction,” shares HELANG. “When I sit down and write music, I am the most inspired by how I feel connected to the art of mystery… ‘Hits Different’ is an attestment to that. It’s a powerful feeling when music brings you back to a memory or a person—it’s what I strive to create.”
The release follows the success of her Flashback EP on HE.SHE.THEY. Records, which earned praise from Billboard Dance, METAL Magazine, and a host of global tastemakers.
