Rising Australian producer and DJ HARLEY GIRL returns with the release of his sophomore EP, legitimate dj behaviour, out now on Sumoclic. Following the success of his bouncy, club-ready singles “do it like that” and “jump !”, the four-track project now arrives in full, introducing two fresh additions: the high-octane “all night” and the infectious collaboration “in the city” featuring Hey Baby, the Australian-born, UK-based artist.
Speaking on the collaboration, HARLEY GIRL shares: “Abby (aka Hey Baby) and I met over Instagram at the end of last year. From memory, it was the same week I started a demo that became ‘in the city’. I wanted to make something a bit cuter that you can sing along to, and the stuff Abby was working on for her new project felt like exactly what I had in mind.”
At its core, legitimate dj behaviour is a tongue-in-cheek concept that merges playful self-awareness with pure dancefloor energy. “This has been the most fun and creative I’ve felt making music in a long time,” HARLEY GIRL reflects. “The small little world I created will hopefully feel tongue-in-cheek to people who interact with it. To me, it’s kind of funny to call myself a ‘legitimate DJ’ and be any sort of authority on what that entails as a fairly new artist in this space.”
Musically, the EP delivers exactly what its title playfully promises: a wild ride through fast-paced, bouncy, and high-energy club tracks made to get bodies moving. “I just wanted to make what I wanted to hear – fast, bouncy, energetic tracks that make you want to move,” HARLEY GIRL explains.
Visually, the project is brought to life through HARLEY GIRL’s own creative direction, leaning into a digital concept inspired by gaming and software aesthetics. “I imagined the EP like a computer program – the legitimate dj behaviour simulator – which became a fun concept to explore through the Blender visualisers I created for each release.”
