Golf Clap Hits Home Run with Country Club Disco’s After Hours in Detroit

by The Freaks - Staff

I’m still trying to process what happened last week. After a year-long wait for Movement Detroit, I was most excited for the festival and after-parties that Detroit is known for during #technochristmas. If you haven’t hit Detroit for Memorial Day Weekend, seriously, what are you waiting for?

Last year I was given the honor to attend Country Club Disco’s after-party featuring an extended house set from none other than Chris Lake. I took my friend Danielle, and off we went into the unknown. Let me be clear, I have attended many afterparties, but none like what Golf Clap has been able to produce with a pure House party for Country Club Disco. We left completely in awe of what we had just witnessed. We both looked at each other and agreed that this was 100 percent the best after-party we had ever attended.

How were they going to outdo themselves this year? Was it even possible? Well, in Detroit anything is possible. Golf Clap hooked up another incredible lineup with AC Slater and Chris Lorenzo throwing down one of the most powerful back to back House music sets that I have ever been privileged to witness. Hugh and Bryan have an impeccable taste for talent and show us every year that we are privileged to be witnessing a truly great movement in Detroit’s House music scene.

I’ve never danced harder at a party in my life. My friend Danielle urged me to go dance onstage for a moment, but I was more interested in feeling the vibes from the rail. Plus… honestly, I get nervous jitters. Everything from the dancers, the lasers, and the music was a completely perfect package. I will NEVER miss another Country Club Disco. Let me repeat that: I will NEVER miss another Country Club Disco.

I was half dead leaving but made the best decision of my Movement to arrive early to watch Golf Clap’s set on Main Stage day three. Most fans don’t make it in till much later due to the afters, but I was absolutely NOT missing this. Armed with my “sunglasses as makeup” and pure adrenaline, I sashayed my way to the VIP riser to finish my morning into afternoon strong. Golf Clap delivered a tremendous set, and when they dropped a Drum N Bass track, I nearly lost my freaking mind. I had not had much experience seeing them play live last year due to an interview engagement, and they now have garnered a fan for life. Golf Clap is Detroit’s best-kept secret, and I am not even sorry to give the game away.

Constant dance floor momentum makes Golf Clap regulars at Movement, Miami Music Week, and Holy Ship, and landed the duo a spot at the inaugural Friendship music cruise. Fueled by relentless passion, if the guys aren’t behind the decks, they’re likely pulling all-nighters in the studio. Bodies dancing in real-time is an addiction, but when it comes to original productions or high-profile remixes, Golf Clap wants to create something for every moment. Recent EPs Vices (Relief) and Machines (This is Bristol) showcase their club-ready attitudes, while high-profile remixes for Zeds Dead and Illenium, Zhu and Tame Impala, Louis The Child, and Hotel Garuda give the music makers a chance to showcase stylistic variety. It’s as Jones says, “rhythm makes people dance, melody makes people remember, and Golf Clap aims to keep you coming back for more.”
