Visionary producer Getter continues his long-anticipated resurgence with “Unorthodox,” a seismic collaboration alongside bass music powerhouse SVDDEN DEATH, released March 11 via Bassrush Records. The single marks the next chapter in Getter’s ongoing creative return, following January’s five-track DOOM EP and further cementing what has quickly become one of bass music’s most talked-about comebacks.
Living up to its title, “Unorthodox” showcases both producers at their most punishing and uncompromising. The track opens with ominous tolling bells layered over a slow, sludge-heavy rhythm that immediately establishes a dark, ritualistic atmosphere. From there, the production lurches forward with deliberate weight, driven by chopped-and-screwed vocal fragments submerged beneath layers of murky bass textures.
Squirming riddim patterns weave around guttural call-and-response motifs, gradually descending into a swampy abyss of deep dubstep pressure. The pacing is intentionally suffocating, prioritizing tension, space, and crushing low-end over flashy arrangements—a precise and calculated display of sonic destruction from two artists known for pushing the boundaries of heavy bass music.
The collaboration originated from a demo Getter initially created last summer. The idea resurfaced during conversations about working together while the two artists were sharing shows. SVDDEN DEATH quickly gravitated toward the concept, selecting it as the foundation for what would ultimately become “Unorthodox.” The result feels like a natural meeting point between Getter’s newly refocused creative direction and SVDDEN DEATH’s signature brand of unrelenting sonic intensity.
“Danny [SVDDEN DEATH] and I have been homies for a while now, and I’m excited to finally have the world hear ‘UNORTHODOX,’” Getter said about the collaboration.
The release follows Getter’s DOOM EP, which received coverage from outlets including EDM.com, Frontview Magazine, Fresh Music Freaks, BeatBurger, Skope Mag, EKM, and Retro World News. The momentum continues after a high-profile performance at EDC Mexico, with upcoming festival appearances scheduled at EDC Las Vegas and Beyond Wonderland PNW. Getter will also appear as a special guest supporting SVDDEN DEATH during his two-night takeover at the Hollywood Palladium, further amplifying the impact of the collaboration.
A defining force in modern bass music, Getter helped shape the genre’s evolution with his unmistakable production style and disruptive creative vision. After stepping away from the spotlight for several years to recalibrate and explore new artistic directions, he returned last summer with renewed clarity and focus. This new chapter reflects a more deliberate and refined approach—one that acknowledges his legacy while pushing forward with fresh intensity.
For SVDDEN DEATH, “Unorthodox” adds another powerful entry to an ever-expanding catalog. The Bay Area native has built a reputation for dark, experimental dubstep paired with immersive and often shocking live performances. Beyond his core project, he continues to expand his creative universe through his experimental alter ego VOYD, the immersive Summoning of the Eclipse festival, the collaborative MELLODEATH project with Marshmello, the Masterhand trio alongside Eptic and Space Laces, and his house and techno alias DEADROOM.
From early releases like “Spelljam” on Never Say Die’s Black Label to global fan favorites such as “Behemoth” and the cinematic rollout of VOYD Vol. II, SVDDEN DEATH has consistently raised the bar for the scale and spectacle of dubstep on the global stage.
With “Unorthodox,” Getter and SVDDEN DEATH converge at a pivotal moment in both of their careers. The track stands as a dark, immersive statement built on atmosphere, weight, and raw intensity—while reinforcing Bassrush Records’ reputation as a home for some of bass music’s most defining releases.
“Unorthodox” is now available across all streaming platforms via Bassrush Records.
