Electronic music pioneer Amon Tobin is once again wowing us with his remarkable talent with the first track off his highly anticipated new album “Fear in the Handful of Dust” out April 26. This single is his first release in over eight years since his highly acclaimed album “ISAM”.
The first single off the album, ‘On a Hilltop Sat the Moon’, is a brilliant and haunting work; a haze of delicately rendered melodies that move like creases in time. The track takes you to another world and seems fitting for an opening scene of a film. The way the melodies weave together with air-like quality will have you daydreaming in no time.
It’s no wonder Tobin is known for being a successful composer. You can tell by the level of expertise in his productions that he has an extraordinary skill for storytelling in his tracks. His last album “ISAM” utilized advanced synthesis processing and production techniques traditionally reserved for sound design in film and paved the way for a radically new kind of audiovisual performance.
Pioneering the use of projection mapping in a live performance context, the landmark ISAM shows were hailed by major media outlets including; Wired, Rolling Stone, and NPR. The tracks were also premiered at some of the world’s most prestigious venues; The Sydney Opera House, The Olympia in Paris, London Hammersmith and many distinguished international festivals including Sonar, MUTEK, and Moogfest.
Amon Tobin’s role in electronic music innovation cannot be understated. In a career spanning over 20 years, he’s released some of the most important, era-defining records of his time. He set a pace of sonic exploration and musical adventurism that has helped to shape much of what has come since.
The depth and scope of Amon Tobin‘s work is a major inspiration to many. From the Kronos Quartet to Diplo, he has achieved respect among artists within and outside electronic music. He established a reputation for musical ingenuity unconfined by genre, and over two decades remains one of the most visionary electronic artists of his generation.
‘On a Hilltop Sat the Moon’ is the inaugural release on Amon Tobin’s newly minted label Nomark. After taking in this latest single, I am highly anticipating the full album, which will be released on April 26th. “Fear in the Handful of Dust” will no doubt be as extraordinary as ISAM. This year has been a busy one for Tobin, with the new label and new album both coming out, and hopefully, a new tour will follow.
