Five Sets I Can’t Miss at Decadence Arizona This Year

Relentless Beats is set to return to Phoenix Raceway for this year’s Decadence Arizona music festival. This year’s lineup includes huge names from the EDM world, like FISHER, GRiZ, Kaskade, Subtronics, Tape B, and SVDDEN DEATH. Dubbed The Portal of Illusions, it is set to be the biggest Decadence yet. With so many artists, it’s hard to know where to start, so here are the top five sets I am the most excited for, in no particular order.

Kai Wachi B2B Sullivan King

Kai Wachi B2B Sullivan King

These two friends have teamed up a few times over the years to bring the chaos to festivals. I was lucky enough to see them play B2B on the Lost Lands main stage, when the duo dressed up as a gorilla and a caveman. They recorded a fake reality TV show intro to play as they took the stage before demolishing everyone in the crowd. When these two combine their heavy sounds, there is only one way to describe it: chaos. This set will be full of high-energy, neck-breaking drops and a good amount of metal thrown in. If you’re looking to jump into a mosh pit for the night, this will be the place to be.

Griz

GRiZ: NYE Countdown Set

GRiZ is one of the biggest names in the electronic music scene. In 2023, he announced he would be taking an indefinite hiatus to focus on his mental health, and he has just recently started his return to the music world. This will be my first time seeing him since his return, and I am beyond excited that he was given the coveted NYE countdown time slot. With heavy bass drops and his trademark funky style, all accompanied by his live saxophone performance as he mixes, this set will be the ultimate way to ring in the New Year.

Subtronics

Subtronics

Depending on who you talk to, Subtronics is arguably the current king of dubstep. Playing sold-out arenas and traveling the world to perform in front of massive crowds at countless festivals, Subtronics’ career continues to escalate beyond anything I could have imagined when I first saw him playing the small side stage at Phoenix Lights. Whenever I ask someone what their favorite set at a festival was, they almost always say Subtronics. Having recently released the second part of his two-part album, Fibonacci, Subtronics is ending another very successful year in his career. This crowd will be the loudest of the festival, with his fans screaming the wubs to all of his songs, and Subtronics himself giving off a crazy amount of energy from his place on stage. If you are a fan of any genre of electronic music, do not miss this set.

Tape B

Tape B

Tape B has risen to superstardom in recent years, with his old-school style pushing him to the top of the streaming charts. This will be my first opportunity to catch one of his sets live, and I am excited to see what all the hype is about. I can’t wait to see how he mixes between the almost countless collaborations and remixes that make up a good chunk of his discography. This may be a slower-paced set to vibe to, but it will still pack enough bass to keep you on your feet.

SVDDEN DEATH

SVDDEN DEATH Presents: VOYD

I was beyond disappointed this year when Forgotten Sands, SVDDEN DEATH’s headlined VOYD show at Rawhide, was cancelled. Luckily enough, after consultation with fans, he was added to the Decadence lineup following the initial lineup announcements. There is nothing like a VOYD set, with its blend of heavy-hitting sounds combined with dark and gruesome visuals. Some people might be turned off by the content VOYD contains, calling it demonic, but if you consider yourself a fan of experimental bass music, you have to experience a VOYD set. The bass drops here will be the heaviest of the entire festival. I am expecting mosh pits and next-level visuals accompanied by awe-inspiring light shows. I am a fan of the dark world that VOYD creates within his sets and cannot wait to see what he has planned to end the year with.
