Exploring the Must-See B2B Sets at Decadence Arizona 2024

by Kody Teer

A B2B set is when two artists perform together on stage, taking turns playing their tracks back-to-back to create a single, seamless set of music. These sets end up being more than just a mix of each artist’s songs, as each DJ must work to blend the unique sounds of their colleague’s music into their own. B2B sets are often full of surprises as the artists strive to outdo each other’s crowd reactions and add extra twists to impress their partner on stage.

The lineup for this year’s Decadence Arizona includes six B2B sets, and I’m diving into what we might expect from each one. Whether you’re a fan of these artists or new to their music, these sets promise something special.

Eptic B2B Space Laces

Eptic and Space Laces are two of the most unique artists in the scene, each cultivating large followings around their distinct sounds. From his early collaboration with Excision on “Throwin’ Elbows” to his 2021 single “Dominate,” which has been dominating festival sets long after its release, Space Laces knows how to deliver high-energy sets that captivate fellow musicians and fans alike.

Paired with Eptic’s versatility—ranging from metal-infused dubstep, like his “Wall of Death” collaboration with MARAUDA, to “Hitta,” his collab with Marshmello featuring Juicy J—this set will be one for the books. Fans of bass music can expect head-spinning moments as they try to process the sheer intensity of this B2B.

Dog Eat Dog (Crankdat B2B Riot Ten) – Dubstep

Dog Eat Dog is the powerhouse combination of bass icons Crankdat and Riot Ten. Riot Ten’s “Railbreaker” is a quintessential dubstep anthem, remixed and edited by countless artists and played at festivals worldwide. Meanwhile, Crankdat’s extensive catalog of remixes and edits brings a nonstop energy that keeps festival-goers on their feet.

Crankdat’s bouncy beats are likely to mesh perfectly with Riot Ten’s aggressive, neck-breaking sound. For anyone looking to dive into a mosh pit, this is the set you don’t want to miss.

JSTJR B2B Nostalgix

JSTJR is a festival favorite known for his genre-bending, high-energy beats. With tracks like “Getting Started,” he keeps the crowd moving with his infectious techno-trance style. Paired with Nostalgix and her hard-hitting house beats, showcased in tracks like “Need You,” this set will offer non-stop energy.

Nostalgix is a standout in the house scene and was one of the few house artists invited to play at Lost Lands. Expect this B2B to have the crowd shuffling until they can’t feel their legs.

Tchami X Malaa (No Redemption)

Tchami and Malaa are two of the most prominent figures in the house music scene. This duo, well-practiced at their No Redemption B2B sets, has played hundreds of festivals together over the years. I first experienced them at Decadence 2019, and while this isn’t usually my go-to genre, I couldn’t deny that the two create some of the filthiest house beats around. With bass so low you’ll feel it in your chest, this is a B2B that will resonate with any house music fan.

Dr. Fresch B2B Bijou

Dr. Fresch has made a name for himself by blending hip-hop and midtempo into house music, resulting in his signature sound. His sets are full of chaotic moments, with the DJ having as much fun as the crowd while dropping hits like “Gangsta Gangsta.” Adding Phoenix native Bijou with his signature G-house style, as heard in his collab with Drezzo on “Goons,” this B2B will feel like a massive party on stage.

Eater B2B Stvsh

Eater is an Italian producer quickly making a name for himself with deep, wonky beats. His 2022 track “Chamber” has amassed over a million listens on Spotify, and he’s also been announced as part of Subtronics’ Cyclops Cove festival, signaling his fast-growing career.

Stvsh is an artist I’m still getting to know. His sound, described as a mix of old-school hip-hop with an urban, gritty vibe, was impressive, particularly in his track “Crooked.” This B2B is a big question mark for me, as I’m still exploring what these two are capable of. But if you’re looking for fresh sounds in bass music, this set may showcase the genre’s next big trend.
