Prepare yourself for an immersive musical experience as DIM KELLY returns to Lee Burridge's All Day I Dream imprint with his latest offering, the three-track “Homily EP,” releasing on June 14. Following a string of critically acclaimed EPs – “Nocturna Animal” in 2021, “Mangrove” in 2022, and “Pianologic” in 2023 – DIM KELLY once again showcases his signature melodic touch, which has become a staple in the All Day I Dream catalog.
At the recent All Day I Dream of Summer Shimmer party at the Brooklyn Mirage on June 2, DIM KELLY captivated the audience with unreleased tracks from the “Homily EP,” creating some of the most memorable moments of the evening.
Drawing from his diverse musical background, influenced by classical, hip-hop, and electronic genres, DIM KELLY infuses the “Homily EP” with a rich variety of textures and moods. Beyond his contributions to All Day I Dream, his impressive portfolio includes releases on labels like TRYBESof, Armada, and Reworck, underscoring his versatility and innovation in electronic music.
The EP opens with its title track, “Homily,” a seven-and-a-half-minute piece featuring a haunting vocal performance by Belgian musician Mondingo. The track starts with a somber tone, as Mondingo's emotive voice sets the stage against intricate melodies and lush soundscapes. As the instrumental energy builds, a sense of optimism emerges, culminating in a moment of peak euphoria around the five-minute mark, highlighted by powerful synth stabs. The track concludes on a serene note, with the emotional atmosphere shifting from its darker beginnings to a more sanguine end.
Reflecting on “Homily,” DIM KELLY explains: “As always, I try to convey emotions through my music. When I heard Mondingo‘s voice two years ago, I was completely blown away by it. His voice has a depth and emotion that really touches me, so it was only natural that we did something together. I composed the music, sent it to him, and two days later, he sent back the vocals, which I loved. ‘Homily' existed.”
