South Sudanese artist, author, and former child soldier Emmanuel Jal joins forces with South African producer Bun Xapa for their electrifying new single, “Chaak,” out now via Higher Ground.
Following the massive success of “Gorah”—which amassed over 75 million streams and reached #1 on Beatport’s Afro House chart—Emmanuel shifts his focus to themes of manifestation and prosperity. While “Gorah” encouraged listeners to check in with loved ones through the Naath/Nuer phrase “We edian?” (How is it going?), “Chaak” looks toward a future of abundance. Emmanuel sings about a time when his people can “bathe in milk”—a powerful African expression symbolizing wealth in all its forms, from financial to physical and spiritual well-being.
The collaboration between Emmanuel Jal and Bun Xapa was sparked at The Alchemist in Nairobi, a renowned creative hub and event space, while Bun was on tour in Kenya. Their chemistry was immediate, leading to an exchange of ideas. Emmanuel shared the initial demo of “Chaak,” which Bun then transformed with his signature blend of driving synths and infectious rhythms, resulting in an Afro-house anthem that radiates energy and purpose.
With Bun Xapa recently named one of DJ Mag’s Artists to Watch in 2025 and Emmanuel Jal’s latest book, ‘My Life Is Art,’ now available, both artists continue to push creative and cultural boundaries. “Chaak” is more than just a song—it’s a sonic vision of hope and empowerment.
