Coming off of the best dancing I have ever done at a fest as a self-proclaimed House and Techno head, I am ready to return to where I left half of my heart last year. Michigan keeps drawing me in yearly for the incredible music and scenery, but despite all the festivals I attend yearly, I have a friendly public service announcement. If you have not ever attended the absolute life changing and magical adventure that is Electric Forest, I urge you to do whatever you can at this point to get on the exchange and purchase a ticket. Today for those lucky enough to grab them, Electric Forest is unloading a few tickets at 12 P.M. today.
“But Jen, I don’t care for Jam Bands or Bass Music.” That has been the general consensus from almost everyone I have continued to gush to about the magic of Electric Forest who has never been blessed to attend. Essentially, my opinion is this, I wasn’t into the lineup and went solely my first year for my personal favorite of all time Deadmau5, but soon found that the lineup DID NOT MATTER. Some festivals you attend for the music, and some for the experience. Electric Forest is a fusion of both. There is magic in Sherwood Forest. I highly recommend you put aside your doubts and trust a converted Forest Fairy like myself. There will never be a rave or festival mecca like Electric Forest. Some swear by EDC, some swear by Ultra, and I swear by Electric Forest. (Thank you for coming to my Tedd talk).
If you must swoon over a lineup, it certainly doesn’t get better than seeing Odesza in the Forest. I already feel my body tingling with anticipation on what I know will be the best Odesza set of the year. I haven’t had a chance to see Kygo since my very first Ultra. So, I can get down with some Tropical House again. Bassnectar will be bringing us one of his most notable performances of the year alongside jam band favorites, The String Cheese Incident. These two powerful yet very different acts, both have such love for the Forest that it is practically their festival they have sponsored and played so often. I was blessed with String Cheese’s Halloween set in full costume at Hulaween last year, and have been itching to see them again. Lettuce is another favorite of mine. I’ll never forget watching fans throw actual heads of lettuce into the crowd during their set at Suwanee… an absolutely dafuq moment, that was hilarious and memorable.
Obviously, House and Techno fans will be thrilled for Dirtybird daddy Claude Von Stroke, Honey Dijon, and Gorgon City Live. If you go for the lineup this year there is something for every taste. You don’t want to do Electric Forest like a typical festival where you plan out every single set for every hour of the day. You want to get LOST in the forest. You want to savor each new memory, the precious moments of joy and mysticism where you happen to wander upon the most incredible piano player in your life in between the trees while a disco ball oscillates and mesmerizes. Let passion lead you to stumble upon the incredible displays of love and hope through artwork that has been set up for months prior to your arrival.
If you go to Electric Forest for the lineup, you are doing it wrong… and it feels so right. See you all in three weeks!!!!
