UK electronic-synthpop duo Dragon Welding is set to release their second single, “We Dance Among You”, from their highly anticipated album ‘The Naughty Step’, due out February 28, 2025 via Dimple Discs. The new track continues their exploration of socially and ecologically relevant themes, this time tackling climate change denial and the dangerous consequences of profit-driven agendas.
Andrew Golding, the mastermind behind Dragon Welding and co-founder of indie noise-pop legends The Wolfhounds, describes the track as a critique of the apathy towards the planet’s future:
“The theme here is how climate change denial has elevated ignorance to ridiculous levels. ‘Drill Baby, Drill’. The next generations of people will look back at our generation in absolute horror.”
The poignant message of the song is visually captured in a dynamic ‘stop-start’ animation, created by award-winning graphic artist Andy Royston, who also designed the album’s cover.
Dragon Welding’s lineup for this album includes Nik Cockshott, formerly of indie rockers The Spores and The Keatons, joining Golding on vocals. Their collaboration began in 2023 after a one-off show together, which soon blossomed into a creative partnership. Their first single, ‘Up And Away’, released in late 2024, sparked the momentum for the new material, followed by a radical electronic reworking of their debut release, marking the rebirth of Dragon Welding as a duo.
‘The Naughty Step’ marks the duo’s continued evolution since their 2019 debut album. Following the all-instrumental ‘Lights Behind The Eyes’ (2021) and ‘Fictionary’ (2023), the new album expands on Dragon Welding’s signature sound—a blend of clever guitar work, mischievous sonic manipulation, and unpretentious, thought-provoking lyrics. Golding reflects on the creation process:
“Dragon Welding is very much about following the noise and seeing where it goes. I deliberately left gaps in the canvas to fill out later once the music had dried.”
Fans can now pre-order ‘The Naughty Step’ and enjoy “We Dance Among You” on Bandcamp. The album will also be available on vinyl and CD through outlets like Rough Trade, Amazon, and Resident Records. The duo will launch the album with a special show on March 1 at Betsey Trotwood in London, alongside The Othyrs, their label-mates from Dimple Discs.
With a sound that merges ‘80s electronica with glam rock and themes of paranoia, Dragon Welding continues to carve out their unique space in the world of electronic music, tackling timely issues with bold, impactful creativity.
