International fans of the iconic cult classic Donnie Darko are about to step through the mirror and into the Tangent Universe, as a global tour of immersive house party events ignites in 2025. Following a sold-out London debut, the experience makes its long-awaited Australian premiere this June 6, transforming the Melbourne Pavilion into a twisted, full-spectrum, Halloween-themed rave for one unforgettable night.
Set against a backdrop of cinematic nostalgia and 80s-inspired rave culture, Donnie Darko: The House Party is not just a film screening—it’s a fully immersive, multi-room sensory overload. Designed to blur the line between reality and the film’s eerie, time-warped universe, the event invites fans to step inside the haunting dreamscape that director Richard Kelly created more than two decades ago.
The international tour will span 13 cities—including Tokyo, Seoul, Berlin, Amsterdam, Paris, Los Angeles, and New York City—with each stop acting as a portal to the film’s iconic Tangent Universe. In Melbourne, the portal opens at midnight, when Frank the Rabbit is said to reappear, plunging partygoers into a wild and warped dimension of 80s vibes, surreal visuals, and immersive theatrics.
Fans can expect a multi-sensory playground of intricately designed sets, thematic characters, high-tech AV installations, and a live screening of Donnie Darko in a fully transformed venue. Themed bars, twisted takes on the film’s storyline, and hallucinatory dance floors will pull guests deeper into the uncanny. Select cities will also feature a special guest appearance from actor James Duval, who famously portrayed Frank—offering fans a rare opportunity to meet the man behind the mask.
“This isn’t just a screening,” says event organiser Jamie McSweeney. “It’s a full-blown 80s-style interactive house party inspired by Donnie Darko. We’ve built something where cinema, music, and storytelling fuse into a completely new kind of night out.”

Themed attire is not only welcome but encouraged. From creepy Halloween costumes to 80s ravewear, guests are invited to fully embody the twisted nostalgia that made Donnie Darko a worldwide phenomenon. And with the event’s history of selling out in record time, advance ticket registration is strongly advised.
James Duval offers one final invitation: “Frank is here… and I’ll be waiting for you.”
