Today, ASHRR unveils their genre-defying single, “Sway.” As the fifth release from their anticipated album, Sunshine Low, “Sway” highlights the trio’s exceptional songwriting talents. Blending electronic soul, post-punk, space disco, and indie-dance, ASHRR‘s distinctive sound is gaining widespread recognition as they gear up for their album launch this fall under Ralph Lawson‘s esteemed label, 20/20 Vision.
Infused with rock and blues elements, ASHRR incorporates funky guitar riffs and live drums to lay the groundwork for “Sway.” The eclectic group showcases their synth prowess with analog leads that seamlessly transition between sections. “Sway” perfectly exemplifies ASHRR‘s strengths—captivating vocal hooks, groovy rhythms, and powerful bass lines merging into a remarkable production.
“‘Sway’ is slinky and seductive, channeling a late ’70s post-punk disco vibe,” explains Josh Charles, one-third of the band. “We enlisted the renowned bass player Emmanuel Ackon from Ebo Taylor‘s band to record his part in Ghana. The bass line is intricate, and he executed it flawlessly.”
Set for release on September 20, Sunshine Low showcases the band stepping into the spotlight, crafting music that makes people dance while delving into their soul, funk, jazz, hip-hop, electronic, and experimental music roots. “It’s about embracing the present, drawing from inner strength, and living freely in the moment,” says lead vocalist Steven Davis. Recent singles include the improvisational “Deux Sons,” the soulful psychedelia of “Fizzy,” the darker “What’s Been Turning You On?” and the upbeat “Different Kind Of Life.”
